YORK HAUL, what did you get

I got a bunch of stuff!!  But what made my day(s) was my last purchase.  I've been looking for the Lionel Alaska Superliners.  They usually go for ridiculous prices.  I found the two car set that were unrun for a VERY reasonable price.  I almost danced down the aisle after making that purchase.

I was able to get these things during a short visit to the meet after work on Thursday. I'm looking forward to returning tomorrow morning for more "training".

York was awesome as always. What a great show.

I picked up a K-line K4 with TMCC and cruise. A few Korber models as always, along with my 6 month supply of JT's smoke. New Blueberry scent is very nice as well as the Campfire scent.  Several buildings from Ro's. Batch of cars and trucks; die cast and a bunch of figures.

Im only 2 hours away from York. I may shoot own Saturday morning for a quick browse. I just love being there. 

Picked up the custom run SP Hydra-Cushion hycube from Beth at PDT, then scored Atlas O Amtrak Phase V Dash 8 dummy in the first 15 minutes of the show on Thursday, then bought nothing the whole rest of the day. Today I started off the day with a bunch of boring stuff... several tubs of ground foam, 6 gallons of ballast, some building kits and decals, then finished off my trip with a bang by snagging the Finding Nemo aquarium car for my daughter.

"6 gallons of ballast"?!?!?!   

I'm impressed!  How did you carry that?

6 1 gallon containers packed 4 in one box, 2 in a second, and a couple of friends.

I had fun at York! Pal Scott snagged a nice NS Legacy from Joe Gr&*#$%ski from Scranton (I can't spell in Polish). He also got a great deal on 8 aluminum PRR passenger cars from Dick's Trains in Greensburg PA.

I bought a Lionel I-12 B&O caboose and an Atlas PC caboose. Found a dummy CN SD- 40 to be repainted in a "patch job" paint scheme for the W&LE........at a very nice price.

I was really impressed with what I saw in the parking lot! There were some beautiful cars & pick-ups, but some of those RVs were awesome!  Tom

Mostly stuff to make some scenes.   Korber background apartment building kit, new OGR 6 story building, couple of Miller animated signs, 6 signs for the train room, lighted vending machines, tons of figures to populate some scenes I want to set up, and of course 1 lionel t-shirt for the wife who was a great sport and came with me.

Ordered some more inspection platforms from Dave at Crescent Locomotive Works. Got a couple BCR battery replacements, and a couple sets of MTH yard lights.

Would love to have bought more with the great prices, but then I have to ship it home or take it on the plane with me. UPS is a rip off, and space is limited on the plane, so I had to shop sparingly.

At least now I can say.... YES, I have been to York.

For myself, I got 3 Lionel Husky Stacks and 1 Lionel auto rack car to make some existing trains a bit longer.

For the club, a ton of stuff: ballast (5 gal pail), signals, scenery supplies, accessories.

Best of all, the return trip back to LI took only 4 hours. That the best I've done on a Friday return in at least five years.

Most importantly i got got to see friends and surround myself with good times, friends and trains. Priceless. 

A bit of an unusual York this time. No trains, per se, but was not empty-handed.

My big ticket item was Mianne bench work. Have been exploring this option for my next layout and finally pulled the trigger. The best part is that they waive shipping costs if you order at the show. Given that it’s 10% of the purchase price, a pretty decent savings.

Picked up some shelving from Glenn Snyder. I have been battling the usual problem of train clutter/storage issues and have put off the shelving for months. Now, I’ll get organized.

Bought a few tinplate street lights/lamps from Sidetrack for my tin layout. Always good to deal with the Sidetrack folks.

Last but not least, a few DVDs from TM Books & Video. The new Christmas-themed one looks good.

So, no trains. It was tempting but had other fish to fry this time.  I’m happy.

please keep us posted on your experience with the Mianne benchwork. I gave that a strong look while at York and am leaning heavily in that direction for my next home layout. Great info on the shipping cost waiver. Thanks

Will do.  Have always read good things about their products here on the forum and am  looking forward to building what will be a second layout for me.

I got two premier MTH PS2 Diesels...one GP30 NYC and one SD60 Conrail for 550 combined.  Also picked up a MTH 6 Car Pennsy Flat Car set w/Sherman Tanks for $300.  Really nice cars!

Was looking for a D&H Passenger Set to no avail and missed out on a Kline Pennsy Commuter Car Set w/TMCC.  Oh well maybe next April.

Saw a phenomenal  deal on the Lionel PRR ABA Sharks but decided to pass.

Some TM Books...can't leave York without something from T M.  Plus a lone, solitary MPC caboose for my funky caboose collection.

After seeing the demo of the Lionel big boy, my wallet got sealed shut. Only bought a video and a foam cradle. 

I took home some additional head end cars for my passenger trains:  3 Weaver PRR B60s, a GGD REA reefer, and an Atlas PRR X-29 Express Reefer.  I also picked up another GGD PRR HW sleeper.

I picked up my SMR Yonah, and I bought a Miller sign, an Atlas Reefer, some Mega-Steam, and a new radiator for my truck (which ate up most of my York budget for train purchases)...

But most of all, I had a good time, which is why I go to York in the first place.

I had also picked up a copy of the OGR Volume 10 Blu-ray on Thursday.

Went back Saturday morning, and pulled the trigger on a Pecos River Brass 4-6-4 Hudson, Santa Fe #3450. Got a good deal on it, so maybe I'll convert it over to TMCC and upgrade the speaker.

You should go back and edit out all the bad comments in the other thread about the Big Boy!   It is an impressive beast!

Trust me, you WILL love that Mianne benchwork!  It actually makes construction fun (and very easy)!

The best thing I got was a pile of dead presidents for a ton of excess baggage.

I had TrainPop's Wish List in hand as I purchased the MTH Show Car, OGR DVD #10, and two DVDs from TM Books, Ticket to Ride and Christmas Train Stories.

I bought the same DVDs for myself along with a CSX Baseball Cap and Roger Carp's newest book on Lionel Trains from 1955 to 1959.

I was looking but didn't see any trains that I had to have so I didn't buy any. With a really limited amount of space for storage I really can't justify buying trains unless it is something that I don't have and is on my wish list. I did note that MTH is coming out with a Nickel Plate 765 Berkshire in February 2014 which I will probably preorder from Catoctin Mountain Trains.

Aha! So you're the one who took my boxcar! 

I saw it at Beth Marshall's booth and held off since I figured no one would take it and I wanted to finish seeing everything first. Came back and it was gone  I went digging around under her table and luckily she had another one. Great boxcars!

Here's my haul:

-Big ticket item of the show: GGD 5-Car articulated Daylight set on dealer pricing blowout from Vince's Trains. He explained to me it was a mistake order that he held on to instead of returning.

-2 GGD REA Express Reefers and an Atlas O PC boxcar  from Beth Marshall

-2 K-Line Express Reefers from the member halls

-A beautiful large Empire State Express art print from a member hall for 5 bucks

-Christmas scents from JT Megasteam

-Discovery of some extremely scarce original Lionel parts from my good friend and fellow forum member Bob Karas

-A very nice first printing of Al Stauffer's "Steam Power of the New York Central System" for a great deal from the book seller in the Orange Hall

-Two rather pricey but ultimately very nice NYC DVDs from a pretty aggressive DVD seller in the Orange Hall. He wouldn't budge on full price ($70) the first day, but I came back at the end of Friday and negotiated a better price after he finally realized no one was spending that much on DVDs 

-A signed copy of my good friend Dennis Brennan's Hi-Rail Guide

-And finally, a pristine large map of the Penn Central System from 1970 as a gift from fellow forum member Putnam Division. What a kind and generous gesture from a great guy. Thanks so much again Peter!

-Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention an empty wallet, aching legs, and a heavier car 

I had a very good time at the York meet. Spent more than my limit!

I finally found some Tropicana cars in the White hall Saturday!!! Also picked up one of the buildings on my list. My grandson got a deal on a Large Scale Railscope engine, $15. So we spent time tracking down some track and 3 cars for it to pull, a reefer, a boxcar and a baggage car, total cost for all the large scale, $70 he's thrilled with it, don't know where he's going to put it but he's happy.

Sorry I didn't bump into you to say hello this time, Art.  I think it's been a few Yorks we have missed one another now.

As for me, here's the haul:

• Ben and Jerry's 2008 TCA Convention car that they had a few of for sale at the TCA Museum on Wednesday
• MTH York Boxcar
• DVDs form OGR (GLA #10) and Tom McComas (3 new ones for this meet)
• Megasteam 4 new scents and 2 more precision filler bottles
• Some bulbs and bulb holders for MTH subways (I was pleasantly surprised they had these on site! )
• 2 Philadelphia Pretzel Company fundraising cars from the Atlantic Division for next years convention in Cherry Hill
• Few Disney Operating cars (101 Dalmatians Gondola, Toy Story Gondola, and Goofy Jumping Hobo Car) and the Dumbo Pylon
• A door/doorway from scenic express to try to dress up a project a bit
• A Disney tractor/trailer
• crab cake and iced tea for lunch each day
• Not technically a York purchase, but I also stopped in at Nicholas Smith on the way home and got one other Disney car, The Steamboat Willie Flat with boat.

When I saw your earlier post about not seeing them  anywhere I thought to myself that I remembered seeing a reasonable set of 4 somewhere, sounds like you eventually met up with  them!

Saturdays can be a good thing!

• Lionel 2012 Southern Crescent Heavyweight 4 Pack (they look and ride beautifully, though they are a little difficult to unpack)
• Lionel 3454 Merchandise Car (such a fun operating car!)
• TM's I Love Toy Trains Ticket to Ride DVD (could've been a bit better, but still a solid video)

Didn't find much of what I really wanted, but I'm happy with the deals I got. Next time I'll come on Friday when the dealers aren't packing up...
