Ah yes, one of those things - railroads.  I see it goes right through the "Rockies," and nearby is the famous Green Felt Desert, which many an early explorer described as "flat as a billiard table."

I'm thinking the Donner party may have come to a bad end over by the air conditioning unit on the right. It might even be possible to find some of their remains in the right corner pocket.

If the air conditioner caused the early snow that caught the Donners  then a Diesel could have been there in 46-47 to pull them out.  As it is, if the diesel crew today would find some grizzly remains if there are any to be found.  

 

Seriously, Rip Track, you have brought me enjoyment with your 'less is more' railroad.  It proves any train or layout can bring us much enjoyment and take our minds off our daily responsibilities.

Henry J. Heinz founded his corporation in 1869 and was producing well over 60 food varieties when he created the "Heinz 57 Varieties" corporate name we all know.

 

He chose "57" for a reason very few of you realize.

This is a particularly nice picture, Alan.  You staged this very well, and the loco looks particularly good there: I would not have thought of using one of these here.  Mine work the mines, so to speak, not the other end of the supply chain.

Heinz was a savvy marketer, knowing that visual promotions are one of the keys to success.

    

He knew that there are no two numerals which carry more impact or instill more satisfaction than the numerals 5 and 7 when placed in close juxtaposition.

 

Try it for yourself...get out your number kit and pair 2 numerals together from the ten numerals 1 through 0.

 

There are 100 combinations, but none are more pleasing than Henry's 57, in the font he had chosen!
