GGD El Capitan - Second Chance

I ordered my set from Scott Mann yesterday.

Well I couldn't take it any more.. if I bought any set of 18" cars I would have 3" envy for as long as I owned them.. you guys that own boats know what I'm talking about!

Solution .. after an e mail conversation with Scott I went and pulled the trigger on a new set of his El Capitan cars complete with RPO and a couple extra cars!

Now I have to go back to the drawing board and fit in larger curves on my new layout to accommodate them.... good problem to have!

I just ordered 2 extra hi level chair cars & a RPO to go with first run 8 car set.

For those on the fence about reserving from the second run, I expect to have a sample lounge car on display at the Sunset/Golden Gate tables in the Orange Hall at York.

That alone makes a trip to York worthwhile.

I have this great set of Santa Fe F3s ABBA that I just picked up that will look perfect on the head end.

Scott said the second run should be here by the end of the year so it should be right in time for Christmas..

We are adding matresses in the Baggage Dorm car (Transition Car). But unfortunately the sheets didn't arrive in time for packing the cars. 

 

 

After reading a thread sent to me by Santa Fe Jim on the details and history of the El Capitan I feel I may have made an error.

When I ordered I was just learning about the makeup of the real train. I ordered the set +RPO + extra chair + extra lounge car.. I ordered the extra lounge because I read it was going to be a really cool car and I figured you can never have enough lounge cars on a train ..right?? 

My question .. should I change my order to an extra chair car.. did the Capitan ever run with 2 lounge cars??

I also read how these cars could be arranged to be other Santa Fe trains..did they have extra lounge cars?

Or ....maybe its too late to change my order and it doesn't matter?!?!

You only placed the order 2 days ago,  Scott will let you change it.  Just ask.

Are the baggage and RPO cars the same as those that came with the Super Chief.  I've never seen a picture.  Santa Fe had some different of baggage cars.

YES, the baggage and RPO were pool cars used by several trains.

I did just e mail Scott to ask if it's too late now that my order has been confirmed. This is the first time I ordered from GGD and am not familiar with procedure. I hope to hear from him soon and I'll let you know.

 

btw: thanks for guiding through this foray into scale land.. Santa Fe has always been a favorite of mine so it makes sense this be my first..

Thanks Jim, that's what I assumed.  I was just wondering if 3rd Rail found something else to model.  

 

I think I've gotten over my El Cap fever and found a Santa Fe steam engine I've been wanting.  WRONG

 

However, it is a sweet train.

Has anyone seen the drumhead yet?  I am hoping for the Conquistador image.

The Conquistador image is what I drew for the drumhead on this set, so yes I have seen it.

I just placed my order for the second run....

Too cool!  This set just keeps getting better and better!  I am so glad I ordered it.  These will be my first GGD passenger cars.  Do they have kadee mounting holes pre-drilled in the underframe?

Don't have production drumhead pictures yet but it is like this one, a Kato HO model picture.

After a couple of e mails Scott has fixed my order. We traded the lounge car in for another coach and its all good.

I have to say I have never dealt with an owner who was easier and more willing to accommodate...
