i am always searching for effective track cleaning cars. I thought the one offered by weaver had a lot of potential. I procrastinated and nearly got blindsided by Weaver's closing. I did find one at western depot and grabbed it. It arrived today after a weather delay.

I began to assemble my track cleaning train. Part of this train is a magnet car that I made several years ago before I got sick.

I cannot not find the dang thing.  Should be right with my other track cleaning cars. But, Noooooo.

I will resume the search tomorrow.

Don't ever move, you will never be able to find anything. I'm still looking for stuff after moving almost two years ago. I am convinced the new house came with a ghost and it anticipates what I will be needing next and hides it from me. Sometimes it does this with things I'm using. When I lay things down on my work bench it hides them for a short time (usually no more than 15-30 minutes) and then puts them right back where I laid them down when it sees that I have become totally flustered.

If I have understood what kind of reply you are inviting, Forrest, I have to say that my 71+ memory for things - esp. small things - has gotten better, or at least held on. Just the other day, as I was crafting a scene (one of my "Insta-Ramas") I remembered a figure, in addition to all the ones I had pulled out for the project, that was still in storage under the layout. I dove under and went right to the correct box and found the desired figure (a man holding a hat.) If you could see what the place looks like under there, you'd understand why I am so happy I was able to put my hand on something I had not seen for more than a year, at least.

Oh, BTW, in the process, I found a pair of pliers I had left in the netherworld Lawd-knowz-when. Go figger.

FrankM.

P.S. I have a Trackman2000, fortunately, esp. since I have several long tunnels, and even have extra pads.

Forrest -

I sympathize, as I lose things constantly (it ceased being funny and became disturbing about 2 years ago), but, as someone else's troubles can make one feel better about one's own (don't deny it), I must say that I have never lost anything the same day that I received it, if I read your post correctly.

So, thanks - I feel better!

Found the magnet car within 15 seconds of resuming the search. It was exactly where it was supposed to be.

The magnet car has been a lifesaver. collected a tiny screw that had departed from my legacy FEF.

The weaver track cleaning car works well. I got extra cleaning pads from weaver. Wish I had gotten more. Maybe I will call them.

I have a lot of different cars. No one car does it all. The first car puts down goo gone and the rest are wipers.

I have a trackman 2000 but don't use it. It tended to snag on one of the two switches I have in tunnels.

My tunnel trackage is what dictates use of cleaning cars.

Will try to get a shot of the train tomorrow or later today.

Ok, here is my cleaning train.

centerline car with roller soaked in goo gone

centerline car with dry roller

weaver track cleaning car

R&L track scrubbing car

magnet car.

the centerline cars work well, but they need to be changed several times during a cleaning run.  the rollers can be laundered.

the newly acquired Weaver also works well.  the fact that it is motorized and spinning the pads is a big plus.  the pad holders themselves do not secure to the car.  if you pick the car up, they fall off.  this makes getting the car on the tracks with fresh pads a tricky exercise.  also, care must be taken when removing the peel backing...the sticky layer wants to stay stuck to the peel backing.  good fingernails and concentration are needed to separate the two.

The R&L car uses small foam paint rollers for scrubbing.  they are angled obliquely and this causes them to rotate as they go down the track.  this is a heavy car with a lot of drag.  these rollers can be laundered, too.

the magnet car i made by gluing a big magnet (obtained at my local hardware store) to the bottom of a little used reefer. it is striking the amount of fine metal shavings it picks up.
