I just picked up an unassembled MPC P&H Crane kit on EBay because I needed some of the parts for another MPC item. It appears to be the early MPC lemon yellow version. According to the seller, it came from a P&H crane dealer in Buffalo NY. Before I rob parts from this kit, I was wondering whether anybody has heard of Lionel selling these kits to P&H or it's dealers. If it's a legitimate MPC item, I will probably keep it together. A picture from the EBay listing is below.

Hey Charlie,

While I don't have any conclusive proof, it's likely that MPC sold the kits to P&H. It could have come from anywhere, but your box is probably an unprinted MPC model kit box, again leading one to believe it came directly from Lionel/MPC that way.

I don't have an example like you just bought, but I do have 9157 and 9158 full-color boxes (complete with flatcars) with the same yellow P&H sticker found on your box lid. I'll have to check these to see if these came with the small decals (meant to be applied to the model) as shown in your image.

If it were me, I'd keep the package intact.

Thanks Todd!

I was hoping you would comment.

I originally purchased the lot because I have one of the crane kits that came in a corrugated carton with a paper label. I think the number is 9757-101. It is unassembled, but it is missing the four jack stands. I purchased some replacements, but they are the wrong shade of yellow.

As far as the mystery kit is concerned:  I think I will keep it together, and just add it to my collection.
