New Lionel Logging Disconnect Cars

Can all of the couplers work? By that I mean can they be run as empties?

I don't see why not.  Couplers on both sides on each truck are movable.

There were trains made up of just these trucks!

I imagine this was the case 50% of the time. It is tricky to pull the logs back into the woods and replant them.

Seems you couldn't do very long trains as the pins going up through the logs is all that is supporting the pulling power and the light chains. Or is my thinking wrong on this. A logging train wouldn't need that many cars but my 7 yr old has been known to put many more cars (30+) in any order and I'm afraid they wouldn't survive.

The pins are not flimsy.  I don't see an issue.

The pins are steel and are sunk into the die-cast frame. You could pull a very long train without having to worry about having a problem.

 

Also - these cars fit Kadee couplers. They look nice with the scale coupler look.

These look like they will make some pretty cool disconnect log cars once the couplers and the wheels are replaced with 2 rail scale wheels. I heard that Tom Yorke is working on some conversion kits to make a pair of these disconnect into a small tank car and a 4 wheel logging type caboose. Not sure when they will be ready. That will be a nice addition to a log train.

Very, very nice, indeed......long awaited to complement the nice Shays that have been produced in years past!

But, the OP's photos?.....pretty fancy Class 1 trackwork for what these bogies were used to in the 1:1 realm, I'd say!

Maybe the Lion will come out with a lion line () of back-woodsy FasTrack!?   You know...log ties randomly spaced, wiggle-waggle rail alignment, stub end turnouts, log bridges,  a 364 log conveyor that begins in a pond and ends in a rustic open-to-the-elements sawmill,..........well why not?

Here are some pictures of the caboose body and the tank car body kits that Tom Yorke is bring out to convert the Lionel logging disconnects to a caboose & tank car. These will really add to a log train.

You provide the disconnects. I am really looking forward to building these kits when they come out.

   Great job on the instructional video & the stills, looks like I will have to pick up at least 2 - 2 packs to add to my WAG logging Train, I have a similar Shay that I use to pull the full consist.  Thanks much for the showing these new Lionel logging cars, I definitely like them!

What was the cost of each 2 pack?

I have never used scale couplers, how would you know the Kadee type needed for the logging truck?

I preordered the "Dinner train " 4 car pack for my porter. I might end up purchasing the whole rake of logging disconnect cars offer by lionel

Probably go great with some k line ore cars

I thought similarly.  I ordered the new singles to go with the previous catalog offerings as well as the new Dinner Train set.

I ultimately drew the line with the Christmas offerings.  Even though I like them, I couldn't see going for those sets.

Unless you want a Christmas train on your layout, I see no point of getting it
