PRR running in the Appalachians today!

Great pictures Sam.  Any lover of the GG-1 has to be a big fan of the scale Williams G motor.

Question:  Why do so many of the O manufacturers insist on putting 2 horizontal bars outside of each cab side window?  Clearly, the real locos only had one lower bar.  The nasty habit started with the PW Lionel GG1 and continues into the latest scale replicas.

Thanks for posting the photos. The GG-1 is a great looking machine. My uncle was an engineer on the Penn and he did drive a GG-1. He had a lot of great stories to tell about his days on the Pennsylvania Railroad, and I was lucky to live in LIC and only a few blocks from the Sunnyside yards. I spent many a day at the yards with my friends watching the GG-1's and all the Penn passenger cars go through the power wash station and how they got ready to move out to Penn station. .

Where are you getting your antennas for the Alcos?  I have a pair of Williams Sharks that need them as well, but I'm not sure of the best source.

I noticed the 3 track signal bridge in the 2nd photo. It looks like you used the regular Lionel 2 track signal bridge and widened it! Do you have some close up  pictures and can you comment on how you accomplished this?

Great pictures C Sam. Particularly since they are of the Pennsy.

The Williams FA/FB models are just so well done; Williams quality-of-accuracy is always

all over the place (likely to get better), but the Alcos pictured, among some others, just

seem to capture the engine's look even better than the fancier brands do. I spent a long time painting, weathering, detailing and upgrading a Williams A-B-A set for GM&O (must photo those). Both FA'a are powered/TMCC.

 

The GG1 is also a very nice model; a bargain. I have a PC version. It was well-priced a few

years ago at $275, and since then I have seen them go for $175, I believe. Almost

bought another one! But, there are only so many GG1's that a NYC fan needs. One. 

 

Don't know if there are kits available but I've seen someone use small 'cotter' pins and some brass or steel wire. Drill suitable holes for the pins and thread the wire...
