(I have been to the Henry Ford Museum, when I lived out there years ago.  Great place!).   Thanks.

Might be worth a trip back. They have added #7 to the coral of steam engines.

They did a great job on it... If you are there, ask for Jake. He is a fireman there

a forum member and a model railroader. ...

Mike:

When I attended the LCCA Convention in Dearborn in 1993 I remember going to many train shops while we were in the area.  I’m sure many of those shops are no longer in business.

Have you tried this site which may or may not be up-to-date?   Model Train Hobby Shops and Hobbystores Locations Directory - Find the Closest Model Train Hobby Shops and Hobbystores Locatio

If you can avoid clicking on all of the ads it shows 2 shops in Plymouth which is not far from Ann Arbor.  I remember going to one in Plymouth when visiting my brother-in-law in nearby Canton Township.

Whoa, must really be out of date... Only one store left on the West Side. Plymouth

trains. Very small store. But after there is couple of great places to eat near by.

( one across the street )

(Jim 1939) has given the best 2 shops in the area, But from Ann Arbor about

1.5 hours each way.

If you have a day to kill Mike, Plymouth trains and Greenfield Village would

be the best bet... Unless you are buying the beer the a bunch of O gauge

guy's I know would show up and talk trains.....

There is also a smaller less known shop on Woodward in Ferndale called "Rainy Day Hobby" that has some older Lionel stuff and other scales as well.  Nice store and owner, pricing isn't too bad.

Wow, just checked this again about 48 hours after last viewing .  Was surprised to see all the additions.  Did not have as much free time as I had anticipated but had a couple of nice experiences and one great "foaming moment!"  Will update when I get home in day or so or have more time.

Would've loved to have visited the area clubs but as the one individual notes, probably best done on a weekend and with more advance notice.

Thanks again for all the input.

If you are going to be on the east side of Detroit, this is a must stop.

Thanks Gary.  That's one stop I was able to make this afternoon.
