Can anyone tell me if Weaver Models Ultra Scale Line Wood Side Refrig Reefers were factory issued with plastic trucks or die-cast metal operating trucks? I came across them at a garage sale today - pretty beat up and missing parts but repairable. I think they are the Ultra Line version - since I don't have a catalog it is hard to tell - Might be the #3100 series. REA and a PFE. Searching the Internet has not been to productive - Maybe #3102 or #3103 - any help and guidance is appreciated.

Thanks all - Need t start looking for Weaver Trucks - anyone know who bought their parts inventory?

Yes Bob Lavezzi of All About Trains is getting the final shipment of Weaver Die cast Trucks and couplers for BOTH the Roller Bearing and Bettendorf styles of trucks. He also has the separate Die cast weaver coupler pair packs.

Give him a call at 908-925-6035. You will get an answering machine and leave a message. Please be patient as Bob is recuperating. We almost lost him.

For those of you who have the following :

  • O scale Brass Freight cars
  • O scale Brass Cabooses
  • O scale Weaver Freight car kits [1980's White Box]
  • O scale  wood Gloorcraft kits
  • O scale wood Quality Craft Models
  • O scale Red Caboose freight car Kits
  • O scale Intermountain Kits
  • O scale American Standard Car kits
  • O scale Walthers wood freight car kits

And you want to convert them to Three rail, NOW is your opportunity to STOCK UP on the Final Weaver Trucks and couplers. I SERIOUSLY doubt anyone will run these types of die cast bolsterless trucks and die cast couplers in their line-up esp when the remaining mfg's/importers will NOT have the ultra-line molds to run the Weaver cars. Whoever bought those molds will most likely adapt those molds to run with their own established brand of trucks- that have bolsters built right on the truck frame.

The Weaver truck, either plastic or diecast, mounted with one #2 X 3/4" or (better) 7/8" screw.  Coupler and truck were two parts.   Plastic, refers to the side frames, and couplers on earlier issues. Wheels and axles were metal either plastic or metal truck.

Mullet River caboose project with Weaver trucks. Note the coupler is not being used with this mounting.

The interesting about the most recent batch of trucks, was the they didn't arrive until just shortly before the final sale on Saturday July seventeenth. I had gone down with some friends a few weeks prior, and Joe said he was waiting for a shipment to complete prior orders. When I left on Saturday, there were a lot of the Delrin trucks available, and die cast trucks were given to anyone who purchased rolling stock, for home application. I don't know what was left as of the close of the final sale. I was able to get Joey A an order that Joe shipped direct, as I made the transaction by phone in between the two trips I made.

That's because Weaver followed the nmra standard. Athearn trucks also follow this and won't cause the high ride you mentioned.

Mark,

Have installed Atlas, MTH and Lionel on my Weaver cars and clearly does not look good. I am going back to Weaver Die Cast. Unfortunately, I threw the trucks that came with those cars away - plus I found a few weaver cars at a garage sales "truckless."  Bottom line, they are now hard to find and I want to convert back and have a few spares.

I wish I had kept them.
