022 switches

You can do a forum search Greg and there will be a lot of information on the subject. You can position them to fit your design.

You can use them anywhere that you need to go from a main track to a siding, or to or from a diverging route. Just be aware that 022 switches are designed by essentially placing a straight section on top of a curved 031 type track, which means that the curved portion will limit your choices of larger locomotives and cars that are designed for larger radius curves, such as 072 track or larger.

You will need to be sure that the insulating pins are in place, as described in the instructions. You can find the instructions on-line if you don't have hard copies. The pins isolate a small section of rail on each directional choice of the switch so that the anti-derailing feature will work.  If you place metal pins in those places by mistake, you will energize the coils constantly and they will burn out.

022 switches can be powered directly from the track, or from a separate fixed voltage for more reliable action.

Any long passenger cars, 18”+, will hang up on the lantern and derail. From what I understand, you can relocate the switch mechanism housing to the opposite side.
