I have a need for a dozen two pole 4 or more position 5 amp min. rotary switches with knobs.

Just did a quick sweep thru Digi-Key/Mouser/Newark/Allied--- only one that has rotary switches with your requirements is Mouser electronics-- www.mouser.com
what are you planning on using the switches for? if you state what application you are contemplating, might be able to give you a different solution---

This is a DC application.
There is a yard which runs out to multiple separately controled mains.
I want a rotary on each yard track to send out or bring in a train from any direction with out hesitation.
Previously, I have done this with dpdt switches and rotarys. This time I only want rotarys.

The El-Cheapos at radio shack will easily carry the current. They just don't like it when the current is on when you make or break the connection. They have single pole 12 position and 2 pole 6 position.
I used them for about 20 years on my layout before I went to DCC for power routing to each block. I never burned one out. I think they are rated at 5 or 10 amps when closed.

There are 2 types of rotary switches. One type makes the next contact before breaking the current contact and the other type breaks the current contact before making contact with the next contact. You want the second type, break before make.

Thanks Jim. I'll have to check their catalogue. The local RS stock tops out at .3 amp.
