Have inherited a minuteman boxcar #3665.
all seems to be present part wise (?) but an issue exists that elevating bracket does not reach maximum height for launch. The launch engages  once the launcher or elevation bracket is manually lifted.
there is some old masking tape on the bottom of the car.
don’t know what this mechanism normally  looks like underneath. Here’s a photo where ancient masking tape still exists. There was a small piece of balsa wood (?) in the box it came in. Might have fit under the masking tape as a quick fix repair of some kind. Perplexing at best.

Question: could it be that a spring is worn, or perhaps some dust dirt or other intrusion is impeding the maximum launch position?

any help appreciated.

btw, have looked over Greenbergs repair manual.  Not identifying missing parts.

additionally I have the same issue with the 470 rocket .

thank you much.
Leroof.

Most likely the bellows and spring.  Inside the rubber bellows is a spring.  When stored in the down/ready position the spring can loose tension over time.   Check that it is moving all the way.  If it is, then something else may be bent.  If the bellows stops before full travel, the spring needs attention.  It needs to be removed from the car and fixed.  The lock ring and washer that hold the rubber bellows and spring together have to be carefully removed.   Strech the spring out and then re-assemble.  Rips in the rubber bellows will cause it to move to fast and could dis-lodge the missle.

I have done the spring adjustment before.  The hardest part is getting the lock ring out without ruining it.

General notes on the 6830 R&R which is the same mechanism as the 470.
