3D Printing to replace zinc pest parts?

3D printed side frames could run $10-15 each AFTER they design work is done and that's in the cheaper plastic. Or order new ones from Bachmann for $6-7 each cast in metal.

One of my concerns is that replacement castings are going to eventually fail again anyway.  Also, that the parts supply from Bachmann could dry up, and if it does, I would back to looking at 3D printing.

Agreed it is an option. The model car guys are leaders if the 3D field as they create their own design wheels and parts that will NEVER be made commercially. 

Creating parts available commercially is to costly in my opinion when the design cost is factored in.

As for zinc pest if I look at the hundreds of locos and cars I have and how many have had issues it is pretty rare.......and I hope it stays that way......but I bet most of my model trains will outlast me.
