Roadnames that will be offered are the ones that receive sufficient reservations. The ones that don't won't.  What is listed is a sampling of possibilities.

No closing date has been set yet for reservations.  It depends on the when of the number of reservations made.  When it gets close to the minimum number of units to be produced then the closing date will be announced.

Seems to me that just the longevity and length of this thread indicates interest is high. How that translates into hard reservations for particular road names remains to be seen.

I've reserved three Canadian Pacifics myself. Somehow, I fear I am the ONLY one who has reserved CP units??

Only 3rd Rail knows for sure. Somehow, I doubt they're going to tell us.

Why would Scott release such information anyway?

Because it might lead to additional sales?  As stated, people might order an extra to put a roadname over the top if they could see it was close.  Or, conversely, they might budget their limited hobby $ to one that looks like it will be made instead of ending up only ordering one that will not be made, meaning the loss of a potential sale.

I just do not see the reason to hide the information on numbers of pre-orders.  Does it really need to be super secret so that Lionel, MTH, and Atlas cannot see it?  It just seems that there could be advantages in showing it and little or no disadvantage.

Sales figures are any company's guarded secret.  And yes competitors do take ideas from each other.  While as a consumer this maybe seen as a good thing to reduce prices for a small company it can be and has been make or break.

People who contact Scott directly with their list of things they will reserve if made are a starting point for many of the things currently being made.  There is nothing stopping those folks from contacting anyone but Scott pays attention.  But to publicly let the world know that X number of people want Y is just giving away research to competitors.

I believe a powered A and a Dummy B are over 1110.00 + shipping, this is the only way they are listed so far but I don't see a problem if some one wants powered B units, that being said I do not believe there are two many people willing to spend this amount in additional units just to get a certain RD name made. Just saying.

The E8 and E9s are reserving well. It is too early to tell if one road or another is going to make the cut or not. But when we do decide, we may be able to fill those orders in a 2nd Run.  We will notify you if your road is not in this run, and give you the opportunity to switch to a road that is in this run.

We have decided to make all B Units in 2R with power and DCC. Customers really want a lot of pulling power in 2R. In 3 Rail, with the rubber tires and all wheels powered, it is definitely not needed (Powered B).

Thanks again for all you enthusiasm and support.

Scott,

Anyway of doing the black/gray IC scheme or the CN modern scheme?  Can send photos if needed.  Would be for the 100/101 and 103

Scott, just a suggestion:  when you post new information like this, use the "edit" function and include "Updated Nov. 1" to alert folks that new information to the thread has been added by you.

I too have the Amtrak on order but would switch to the #4316 if available.  I have already eMailed my interest to Scott because I can only get one engine.

I also inquired about the Southern option and if the engine will be modelled after the 6900 @ the NC Transportation Museum:

(scroll down to the 5th engine in the roster)

Just picked up some 18" aluminum K-line passenger cars. My F7's haven't arrived yet so I can't run any tests.  How many cars do you think 1 e8 in 2-rail could pull?  May eventually have some grades no more than 2% once the layout gets built.

Other threads here seem to be saying use 2 or 3 units for 14+ 21" aluminum cars such as the El Capitan/Super Chiefs setups people are putting together.  I will only have 6 or 7 cars probably (but you never know how things can expand ).

Scott,

If you do a 2nd run, I hope that you consider the late era B&O paint scheme (solid blue with yellow trim.)  Not nearly as flashy as the earlier paint scheme, but is more representative of locomotives in the mid 60's.

Jim

I totally agree. The later simplified scheme is rarely offered, but handsome in it's own right. As mentioned, if you are modeling mid 60's on or even early Chessie era you need the simplified scheme. I would be interested in addition to the Erie Lackawanna in a potential 2nd run.

Whether or not there will be sufficient preorders for anything will not be known until reservations are closed.  There is still a few more months of open preorders.  Then Scott will contact everyone whose orders are insufficient with their choices.  Preorders over the phone for liveries not listed on the website are not added to the website unless there is some minimum amount of interest,  probably about 5-8 units.  Or, there may not be specific gifs available to add to the website.  Some people got panicky when gifs of different locomotives or liveries were placed on the website.

OBTW, no more 2nd runs unless there is a long waiting list for leftovers from the 1st run.  That is what happened with the El Capitan cars.  Even with the F7s, which are already all sold out except for about  2-3 2-rail and a dozen 3-rail, there is no intention for a second run.

If you want B&O solid blue email Scott that you will reserve X number if what you specifically want is made.  Never know til you try.

The F7 B units are powered and have sound. I would like to the same with the 3R E8 B units. There's nothing more satisfying than watching/hearing an ABBA set go rolling/thundering by.... for the extra $$ I'll take powered units with sound every time.

Build the 3R frames the same as the 2R frames...meaning drill/tap the holes for the side steps so we can at least add them a lot easier than the F7's. Having to take them apart to drill, tap, mount, and remove the truck mounted steps is not fun.

In the FT thread earlier this year it was stated that beginning with the FT's, all the F's would include side steps in a baggy. That has not happened yet, nor were the holes even drilled to add them later. That really needs to be addressed.

Stainless grills.... tab or no tabs? I don't know but my tabbed screens on my FP7's held and stayed straight a lot better than the glued F7 screens. Now I have 104 tab holes to fill, and re-glue the screens on my ABBA F7's because the grills were changed but the holes were left in the shell.

Also if you are going to glue the grills on, it needs to be a clear flexible glue, NOT a brittle CA. The CA breaks loose easily, and leaves a white residue behind.

Just my suggestions based on delivery of the F7's.
