FINALLY!!!!!! No more 40 MPH speed restriction!
You've got it, Jack. No 40 mph limit on these trips.
At our initial meeting with Metra, one of the first questions the VP of Operations asked me was whether we could run 79 mph. We likely won't go that fast, but 60-70 mph is a sure thing. 765 can finally stretch her legs a bit.

Honestly, in the east where the scenery and sight lines tend to be a lot closer in, 40 MPH really isn't all that bad if you actually want to see the world going by. I can understand why in the expanse of the great west, 40 would seem like sitting still though. Now I DO admit that I would love to SEE 765 going past me at closer to the speed she was built for!
All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have my Tickets in hand!!!! Looking forward to this one!

Well.....that is one item that I would actually Pre-Order....FWIW.
I wish the FWRHS would offer more things like that. One of my prized possessions is a poster of NKP 587 blasting past IU tower in Indianapolis. In the current age, I don't think stuff like this would be too expensive to reproduce, and could offer a low priced item to sell at the merch. table.
I have two questions.
1. Is Metra requiring you guys to use the Mars light?
2. Is Hotwater going to be firing the 765 on this trip?

2) I don't think Jack has picked up a coal shovel or a clinker rake for years! He's been totally corrupted by those fancy pants oil burners out west. 
The FHRHS continues to show what an amazing, talented, and devoted group they are. All of their knowledge and hard work that is involved in keeping a large, main-line steam locomotive in perfect condition is a huge accomplishment. Additionally, all of the work that goes into meeting with the railroads and other groups to plan and execute the excursion is another huge accomplishment.

No and no.
My hometown has many things to be proud of, and the accomplishments of the FWRHS have earned them a place well up on that list. When many people think of Fort Wayne, they think of 765, and I think that is as good a thing as you can say about the Summit City.

Rich, great to hear this!! Definitely going to see if I can fly home for this very worthy event. Will you guys be using the N&W water car or your own if it's finished yet? I know you guys were redoing the axles or something I believe from what I remember? Plus are you guys going to use the coal bunker extension as well?

N&W A-Tank. Ours is not ready yet.
No need for the coal bunker extensions on these trips.

It's a really cool graphic, but perhaps the red logo could be downsized to obstruct less of the loco, to increase its appeal as a collectible poster. Show the entire loco outline ...

Rich, if you guys do decide to sell the poster, I will definitely buy one! I am from the Chicago originally and if I was still up there, I would definitely buy some tickets! My son would love this!
That poster reminds me a lot of the lead in to the old Hercule Poirot mystery series. Pretty doggone classy in my opinion.
What route will you take to get to Chicago? Passing through Elkhart?

As a matter of FWRHS Operating Department policy and with respect for the railroads involved, we do not publicize our deadhead routes.
So does this mean that if you come back to the NS on the east coast it will still be 40? I think 40 is a really nice speed. Here's 2 videos I got and she was running about 40. The top video I'd say 35 to 40, but the video at Route 167 east of Jefferson Ohio was 40. By chance Rich, ware they going to be running any trips this year on the NS through Northeast Ohio besides probably doing the CVSR trips in September?
U know Rich, if you guys need refreshments while running her, I'd help! Err...ahh...maybe extra hands on the grease???

40 is nice but seeing that Berk running 60 plus is going to be a real treat, what a fine machine. Not to mention the train boarding in Glenview is cool, that North station is a couple blocks from where I grew up.
It should actually be "NRHX." It's the railroad reporting mark and number.
Almost five years ago exactly since my last 765 excursion ride.My Dad and I would go on Chicago area"Friends of the 261"trips every year starting about 10 years ago.The 261 has been MIA in the Chicago area for many years now.I am really looking forward to this trip.I am overdue for a local steam fan trip.No diesel engine included is awesome.

Wow! Some 32 years ago I caught 765 on the IHB just south of Franklin Park. This is exciting news!
