Is the blue 8010 Santa Fe switcher w/ safety stripes of 1971-72 nearly identical to the 634 blue switcher of 1963, but that the 8010 was adorned with a few extra details added on?  I had the 634 of 1963 when I was 10.  It's proving to be very difficult to find. I thinking of just settling for the 8010.

I believe they are mechanically quite different, as the 8010 uses the revised powered truck design that was first used in 1970.  Probably very difficult to tell a genuine 8010 with the leftover 634 shell, as opposed to a faked one. This TCA e-train article has brief mention of the 8080/634 models.
