I recently tried something that I think gave a more realsitic grass look.  I took grass green felt and after I laid it, I brushed it hard with a metal bristled brush which raised the pile.  I have a farm scene and it really made the pasture area look nice.  Just an idea.

I've also tried with an excellent results, using animal fur used for tieing fly fishing ties or pieces of feathers, cut down to size, spread with my home made static grass applicator, and then slightly air brushing the base of the grass with a light green, leaving the top half of the strand of grass the natural light beige or brown coloration....just food for thought...If I remember I'll try and post a pic when I get home from work.

He does a really nice job with it, though I at first thought the effect was too western and well, arid looking, for a midwestern layout. But, ****, half of Missouri looks like this right now...

And almost all of Michigan, though we did just get a bit of rain.
