I am new to model railroading, but not to Allis Chalmers farm equipment as that is what I collect and build. In looking at Ebay for AC, and a flat car for a project, I ran across this. Apparently two bidders think this set is valuable, but is there a book value for Lionel cars, etc. or is this just the Ebay thing were guys go crazy?? Just curious!!! I have one of these scrapers in my collection made by Linsey. Looks exactly like this one. Tks, Armand

What you see for that specific item is correct. This is a rare variation with the wire windshield and the AC markings

Here is the more common version MIB is still $1k:

the value is in the scraper which was very easily broken, here is the value of just the flat car without the scraper. $20

hope this helps.
Also Lionel reproduced this car about 8 -10 years ago. The number is 6-26024.

These look close to the originals but can be had for about $80.00 or less.

Some people will pay big money for mint in the box postwar items. This listing you posted on ebay is just one example.

Others would like to have items like that in their collection but can't afford too. So Lionel has made reproductions of items like that over the years so even the common model railroader can have one in their collection.
I loaded the ebay page and saw that the 4 figure price bid...

This is way ah never mind.

I have had a first gear die cast tractor and I think there is a crawler in 1/50 hiding somewhere. And they were rather inexpensive.

When the big money starts bumping wallets like this, stay out of the way. There will be others coming along in the future if this is what you are looking for.
