In most layouts, there is often a need to have a means of connecting a lot of wires to terminal strips. In my layout I use grounding bars in several locations for common feeds of +12VDC (lighting) and 14VAC for accessories. They look like this.
While specially terminal strips are available, I found them expensive. These grounding bars I use have the following advantages:
1. they are commonly available at big box building stores in the electrical aisle near the circuit breaker panels
2. they are inexpensive
3. they are available in different lengths for flexibility
4. they can hold a lot of wires. I twist multiple wires under a single screw
5. they use square drive screws which I find much easier to drive while crawling under a layout
6. they are cheap enough to use scattered around the layout for convenience
