Great observation.
I'm not into kit building, & it went unnoticed by me until you mentioned it.
Ascending the stairs, no problem, but descending.....whoops !

Yes I did too, lol. I've glued model kits together wrong when I got in a hurry. Maybe Stan was too. After all he had an article to get to press!

Not everything goes perfectly in a building project. This guy at the bottom of the skinny ladder can't believe I left off any kind of safety railing at all (Reading Central, OGR Run 247 and 248). I bet a few readers around the country were thinking the same thing at the time. I wonder how they got that big barrel up those steps.

It's a good thing that OSHA is still a few decades in the future according to the time frame of this railroad.

For the time frame of your Reading Central, I think the open ladder looks right at home.

Remember, this was back in the day when safety gear was comprised of coveralls, gloves, and maybe a hard hat.

That looks like a Bachman coaling tower? Nice detail in that scene.

Is that a barbeque just to the left of #67?

You're right about the kitbashed Bachmann coaling tower serving as a small mine tipple. Those are just barrels on a rack though and not a barbeque. We treat our little employees good but not that good.

It took me a while to get used to how carefully some readers peruse their magazines. I had a question from a reader once about my source for a certain freight car in a photo. Turned out that he had spotted the car even though only a tiny portion of it was visible 5 yard tracks over from the scene I was really shooting.

It's very satisfying to know that people are reading and examining photos so thoroughly. It really keeps the author (and the editors) on their toes.
