You can't see from the picture, but there are tunnels behind Santa and the lad. This window display was designed to give the train a chance to disappear and reappear so as to make the display more interesting. There was a nice reproduction at York but like an idiot I thought about it and by time I went back either I couldn't find it or it was gone.

Someone made actual size reproduction posters of this. He also made a gigantic one. I think it is 15 feet by 5 feet. I have the large one. The boxed train set is not in mine.
The one I saw at York was 12" deep with tunnels, and mounted on 1/4" hardboard and was purchased that way.
Here is a different version of the display that someone reproduced. I wish it was the American Flyer version.
