I was surfing the web for information about Amtrak and I stumbled upon pictures of American Loco Company (Alco) RS1, RS3, S2, and PA1 types that served the passenger railroad all the way until Phase Three. I know that some of the older switchers that made it to Phase Three had there Alco engines removed for 12 cylinder Prime Movers from EMD, but does anyone else know more info about the locomotives, and does anyone know here I can buy a three rail O-scale Amtrak Alco?

Aparantley there was a rumor that Alco PA1s from the D&H served Amtrak for a week or so until they where scraped for being unreliable. The time they served was so short they where never documented on any papers or such.

The D&H former Santa Fe Alco PA units were NOT sold for scrap, but sold to the Mexican Government Railroads, and ran for quite some years down there.

The time they served was so short they where never documented on any papers or such.

Wow, very good model and locomtive. However I must pin tout that the second picture is not the same as it was an Alco after it was converted to use a EMD engine, which is why there is a large hump on the long hood of the loco. And, what year is it and does it have railsounds?

Thank you, to be honest I'll probably buy a black NYC, PRR, or PC RS and decal and weather it to look similar to a Alco used in Phase 1 MOW, or I may buy the Alco shown and kitbashmit to put the hump on for the GM engine the later models had, thank you!

Indeed, however the restoration of the ATSF engine isn't going as well as the NKPs, as the 190 is now officially the only PA1 running in the country, whil the handful of leftovers from the D&H are still getting out together her and there over the contry.

Don't know about the paint scheme in the roads you inquired about, however, I am now remembering that Atlas O actually released RS 1's in Washington Terminal Co. livery ( back around 2005 - 6 ? )   And yes WTC RS 1s were painted in Amtrak livery several years after Amtrak's takeover.  I used to see the WTC RS 1's all the time during the early 1980s, at the Ivy City engine facility which parallels New York Ave in Washington.  I used this route to get to work in and out of DC almost daily.

I don't know where the RS1's went after they left Amtrak's Ivy City facility. Toward the end of their time with Amtrak,  I recall seeing them parked way north on a siding within the facility.  I do remember when the CP7s arrived.  I believe they were ex Santa Fe units.  They of course were repainted to Amtrak colors.  Once Amtrak changed all of the WTC locomotives to Amtrak color scheme, one end cab switcher was left in the WTC livery.  I think the idea was to pay tribute to the Washington Terminal Co. and their employees who actually switched/serviced Union Station and surrounding industry such as the U.S. Government Printing Office since the beginning of Union Station.  WTC was actually formed by and jointly owned by the B&O and the  Pennsylvania Railroad companies.

Amtrak also just recently restored one of their Washington DC EMD yard switchers in a "Washington Terminal" heritage scheme and dedicated to long-time employee Pete Grosso. Now the "Spirit of Pete Grosso"
