We have requested that this engine come with the long tender, just like we used for the RI engine.

The profile in the picture vs the MTH drawing is slightly different.  This is a standard production tooling that MTH uses for most of their USRA Pacific's.  This is NOT an O-Scale brass 2-rail model that would mimic the real thing (picture) to the correct scale with correct proportions.  This is as close as we can get to using the available tools at hand.

... interesting disclaimer for something that costs well over a grand...🤔

That's because for some of the earlier announcements, people were asking for all sorts of changes/additions that aren't possible (or require costly new tooling) under the current MTH process.  Plus, it's the cost associated with doing a short, custom run of a model.

Besides, look at all the $$$$ models Lionel's releasing in inaccurate/fantasy decorations.

Rusty

The model is going to be as close as possible to the CNW prototype using existing MTH Premier USRA Pacific tooling. It won't be an exact match like a 3rd Rail brass model, but a reasonable stand in using existing tooling. It's really your best chance to get a CNW Pacific, as I highly doubt there are enough people who want one (or will fork over the money) for 3rd Rail to make the model in brass.

Just curious; isn't the MTH model a USRA heavy Pacific?

From what I remember as I was an MTH dealer since the beginning, these Pacific’s original MSRP was $799 in 1996, 25 years ago. Lionel scale Mikados were $1250 in 1991 with Railsounds. MTH climax loco for $999 in year 2000. Point taken these are expensive but I believe Lionel is still the leader in MSRP though. As expensive as MTH models have become, they haven’t caught up to Lionel. I have a Lionel RI 4-8-4, it isn’t exactly right either! Lionel left the SF number boards on and painted over them. Going to take them off, fill the holes and weather it. By the way they used a smaller motor than they have previously. It’s as close as I’m going to get to a die-cast RI 4-8-4. Unless you model NYC, PRR, SF or UP you weren’t blessed by the train manufacturers !
