Has anyone used the Sterilite boxes with dividers, or, found some other type of quick, portable storage cases for 1/43 die cast cars?  I know there are many selections for the Hot Wheels size cars, but haven't found something as suitable for the slightly larger cars.

In this regard, I want to be able to quickly swap out the more scale cars with the Hot Wheels style when youngsters come and play on the layout.  But, I'd also like to keep the more scale size cars handy and unscratched.

I did a little mock up of the smaller bubble wrap pouch which is 4.5" X 5" and the cars were a tight fit.  I decided to order the 6" x 8.5" clear bubble pouches on Amazon -- 50 pouches for $9.50 sounds very reasonable for this application.

These pouches in various size look like they may be useful for storing small, breakable items that seem to accumulate over time in this hobby.

Some wraps have acids in them that will attack paints. In general it's all a gamble till tested.

A wood curio box from a craft store with a lid added might be nice.

A decent fishing box for large lures for muskellunge or ocean fishing should be ok. They don't often use the same reactive plastics they used to.

There are small boxes suitable for this and "stuff" too..Some have.movable.dividers, but you can snip out molded ones too. There are larger. Put a big car in your pocket for shopping...hmm I gotta dust that room, lol.IMG_20161215_061625

Thanks Adriatic!  I keep my various batteries in a fishing box (works great - and very portable), and was thinking about that type of storage for the 1/43 cars.  But, the fixed dividers were too small.  A fishing box for muskie lures is a great idea.

Looks like you have spent some time on that great fishing lake nearby:

Doesn't the bubble wrap Mar the paint in long term storage?

Good question (as always!!!).  I was planning to keep the cars in the wrap ( or, quick change storage) for the  short term when I swap them out  for Hot Wheel style vehicles, mini CAT construction vehicles, etc.  I plan to make the switch when young children are operating the layout.  That will save my vintage cars from the dangers posed by sticky little fingers, rough play, and, gravity...

While putting away some of my more breakable Lionel accessories that those little hands couldn't quite leave alone  , I noticed that Lionel used bubble wrap for some of the smaller items packed with the accessories.  (In this regard, I didn't pay attention to which parts were put in bubble wrap by Lionel of Michigan -- some of which had discolored over time.)

Obviously, there are different grades and compositions of plastic -- as the older LGB products exemplify in spades.

Actually, only a little. When I mention a Big Mac drive, I'm usually not talking about running for a hamburger. Union Pacific initials confuse me constantly too.

I've only landed bright yellow Tigers, no green brutes bite my lines. Hundreds of hours on the river and Erie too, but I never caught a carp or walleye either; pike, and bass keep getting in the way. I've caught dogfish and garpike, and a rainbow down here too. Even a snakehead somebody let loose, I thought it was dogfish #3 for a minute. Not to often I'm skunked though. Even ice fishing, something always wants to say hi.  The only thing that leaves with me is a tacklebox full of other folks garbage I love to fish but don't eat them; don't hunt, but love to cook and eat wild game, and can spend weeks in the woods alone I'm a great target shooter too; rifle or pistol. But I can hardly reach a trigger on anything bigger than a Walther. Anything but normal

All past tense, tore my guts up and trains are my limit now. I can't even cast anymore let alone land the big one.

How about clean butcher paper or grocery bag paper?  Cut to a manageable size, wrap and secure with blue painters tape.  Place the rolls in any size box.  Let's keep it simple.    John in Lansing, ILL

Great ideas!  On a humorous note, even though my grandfather and uncle were butchers, I have no idea where to buy butcher paper!  Amazon?  Market?

Our restaurant supply store has that. I shop at The Restaurant Store.

Any supermarket should have it right next to the rest of the wraps and foils.

If they don't carry it anymore check wallymarts , Moschecks on Allen rd. or Cattleman's (Telegraph & Goddard H.Depot parking lot + a few more I think). I had a roll picked up for me last year to divide large venison packages up. It came from one of those places.

The green for delicate, or the slightly stickier blue painters tape de-tacked by fingers should be better for removal without tearing the paper. But in the freezer, freezer tape is great. It seems way more moisture resistant, its whiter, and I think, a hair thicker that traditional masking tape.
