I ordered a Atlas engine over two months ago, July 15th to be exact.  I tracked (USPS) it to Richmond, California. The Post Office says it left Richmond on the 21st of last month. It still has not arrived. Other things I've ordered went through Richmond the same regular mail a week or so later and have arrived. There is Ebay buyer protection that states it cover shipping. Has anyone used this service and how did it work. Thanks Don

I recently used Ebay Buyer Protection and successfully got all my money back (price plus shipping) after the seller headed for the hills with my money and no item sent in return.  One key stipulation with Ebay Buyer Protection is that you must open a case within 45 days of the sale date. 

 

Do you have a USPS tracking number and is it still somehow for whatever reason still floating around out there and showing as undelivered on their tracking system?

That's an unusual amount of time.  You should of had the item by now.  Unless the seller handwrote your mailing address, there is no other reason not to have it by now.  I would ask your local mail carrier to help you look into it.  My wife had the same problem a month ago.  She was expecting a package from Europe for nearly 2 months.  It turned out the sender handwrote our address incorrectly and it was sent back.  My local mail carrier gladly assisted me in researching the issue.  She's been great as I have been keeping her busy with my train deliveries.  Anyway after correcting the address, it took another 3 weeks or so.  The address just might be undeliverable.

 

BTW - My wife is Greek too.  We just came back from visiting her family in Greece for 3 weeks.  Many laughs even without a Hollywood script.

We were there last year when they had a rash of wildfires all throughout the country.  I saw some more this time around as well.  No wildfires on the island where her brother works on (he's in the Greek Coast Guard).  As part of our annual vacation to Greece, I've already started planning our few days stay in Santorini for next year.  Hopefully, there will be no wildfires on that beautiful island.

Last year, my aunt ran into a similar situation.  UPS lost the package, then found it after the seller put a tracer on it, and promptly lost it two days later, never to be seen again.  By the time all that back and forth went by and UPS confirmed the package was a lost cause, the 45 day period was up.  Thankfully, her credit card company forced PayPal to reopen the claim considering that the seller got the insurance money from UPS (confirmed by a UPS official) and stopped responding to emails when he was asked about the refund not showing up.  Thankfully, her credit card company came through and convinced PayPal to give a full refund including original shipping since she had all of the conversations between her and the seller where he promised to send the refund.  Considering how spotless the sellers eBay rating was (no negatives, 100% rating, almost 500 sales completed), we were surprised of how he handled the situation.

All too common.  After a rash of Christmas package thefts, the local post office decided to hold packages too large for the mailbox.  Unfortunately, the failed to notify most of the recipients, so until one started checking, parcels were presumed missing.  Had some lovely fruit sitting for a few weeks!

I've had occasion to use the buyer protection a couple of times.  One time I never got the item, the other time I actually did get it after about a month, and after I was refunded.  The seller shipped it Priority but had no tracking number.  I returned it to the seller at my cost, but he was still mad.  I mentioned to him that I had no dog in the fight at that point, and I could have just kept it, so I wasn't sure why he was angry about me returning it!

If it isn't too late already, you can open a case with Ebay. The cases are not acted upon immediately. Ebay will expect you to contact the seller to try to work things out, but you will be on-record as having an issue.

I don't recall how many cases I've opened. It's been just a few.

Each time, I straightened things out with the seller, and just marked the case as resolved.

The eBay buyer protection seems to be a PR attempt on ebays part. I'm not sure how it would apply in this case. Since you paid, and seller can show he shipped it with the delivery confirmation, it seems neither of you are really at fault here since the package just hasn't been delivered yet. The "protection" is for buyers not being taken by unscrupulous sellers. It doesn't sound like this is the case, at least not yet. Indeed, a stink should be raised with USPS. Good luck though.

Buyer protection isn't just for problems with items received.  It's also for items NOT received.   Some insurance will pay in the end, and sometimes the "insurance" is PayPal.

The onus is on the seller to show that the package was delivered. Having a a confirmation number is not good enough.

Reminds me of a so-and-so that I had to file a claim against.

When I asked for the status on a late package, he gave me a delivery confirmation number. Too bad it was for a package delivered in the correct state, but  in a town about 200 miles away.

I got my money back.

Too bad I couldn't get him kicked off Ebay.

 

I will repeat myself: If it isn't already too late, get your case open.

If things work out, you can mark the case resolved. As far as I know, when a case is resolved, nobody gets dinged.

If things do not work out, and you did not open a case, you may be out of luck.

I have used it on a DOA engine and it worked great. It is actually the sellers responsibility to file the claim and not the buyers I read that somewhere on ebay. It seems like its better for buyers then sellers. I dont sell much on ebay but when i do I make sure its free shipping so you automatically get five stars on shipping. Good luck with your train hope it works out for you  Sometimes the local P.O leaves a notice that the item is at the post office so maybe thats the case.

The more I think about, I think this is correct. While it seems the seller did ship it, it's not your fault that it hasn't arrived. The buyer protection is just that. Start the claim for a package not received. After some back and forth, if your item doesn't arrive, eBay/PayPal will refund your money of the salesprice plus shipping. You're out no money.
