I opened my California Zephyr Commemorative Train Set and discovered this touching tribute to Jim Weaver included in each box of four cars.  Atlas O Commemorates Jim Weaver

As has been stated many times on this forum the cars are incredibly beautiful.  I can't think of enough superlatives to describe them and I can't imagine a more fitting tribute to honor Mr. Weaver.

Thank you to the Atlas O staff for continuing Mr. Weaver's legacy.  I am honored to own this set and I am even more fond of these cars now that I know what inspired your team to produce this set.

Sincerely,
Kevin Garcia

I originally posted these comments on another thread.  However, I feel it is very fitting to re-post it under this topic:

I just spent the last 2 hours unpacking, examining and testing my 12-car Western Pacific CZ cars.  I am very pleased to report that all of the badging is correct and right-side up.  All cars roll freely and light-up off the track voltage.  One minor problem on the diner a coupler was broken.  Not a problem since I will be replacing all couplers with Kadees.  The lights flickered a bit on the dome/obs car.  Probably a loose wire wire, not a show stopper.  When I was finished a notices a small plastic piece that appears to have broken off the under carriage of one of the cars.  I guessing that I could spend 5-6 hours trying to figure out which car it came from, but it is probably not worth the effort.

All-in-all I must say that I am extremely satisfied with this set.  It was worth the $$$ and meets Atlas measure for quality and value.  Hats off to the good people at Atlas.

The California Zephyr sets are a fine tribute to Jim Weaver and I am certain that he is smiling down on his Atlas family with much pride and gratitude.

Thanks Jim.

Jim was a great guy. I talked to him a couple of times at York.

I understand the confusion. Although the last name is the same Jim Weaver had nothing to do with Weaver the O gauge company. Since the time Atlas re-entered the O gauge market in the 1990s he worked solely for Atlas. His passion for O gauge lead to a lot of nice models being produced.

Jim was a great guy - I miss him very much - could it be five years already?..... I asked him once what he was most proud of thinking it would be the reefers and he told me what he was most proud of was the Atlas O track system.....

Ben and I were both bugging him about getting the F's in Erie livery and I was trying to get him to ship me a set before Ben could get them. He pointed to the units on display and said those were Ben's. Ben came by and I told him, sharing my defeat. Jim leaned in and yes they were Ben's. And that they didn't have motors in them.
