Is there a model of a 1930s or 1940s Flower Car? Would have been a Packard, LaSalle or Cadillac. John
John, a flower car? Are they like a hearse?
@JDFonz posted:John, a flower car? Are they like a hearse?
More like an El Camino or Ranchero. Some with extended frames, some with steps like bleachers to hold the flowers in vases. Some with an aluminum or stainless steel cover for the flowers and ancillary gear and equipment under the cover. John

Rattler, The only model in our scale that I’ve seen is a 1959 Cadillac S&S Flower car. Here’s one by Neo <bottom> I located in a quick web search. I’m about 90% sure that Forum Sponsor Diecast Direct offered this same year and model in the more traditional black, maybe a couple of years ago?
The styling is really sharp but unfortunately too late for your time period. I wonder whether it would be possible to cut the station wagon top off a period model - assuming that they had flower cars in your era and that they looked similar.

OK, I got curious ... there’s a 1941 Cadillac Miller Meteor flower car that turns up in web photo searches. Here’s a link with the prototype.
The models by GLM look excellent in other photos I found: https://www.walmart.com/ip/194...ale-by-GLM/840761824

All in all, I like the tanker, and thanks for the painting advice from Lee and everyone. I wound up finishing with Testor’s Dull-coat, which I’ve used for a long time, but warmed it in a container of warm water first to improve the spray.
Artie, nice job on the tanker rig...the blue color looks to be a perfect match for the Sunoco "blue" I recall seeing years ago...
Artie, nice job on the tanker, seems like the Atlantis 1/48 models are a bit fussy. I have the tanker and the Chevy stake truck waiting for builds but don't know if I'm looking forward to or dreading.
Joel looks like you're branching out into resto-mods and customization. That's gonna attract more business to the shop.
On my trip to southern NH on Saturday, I stopped at a place called "Toyland" in the Amherst/Milford area on Rt. 101A. It's a neat toy store with a nice mix of new and old toys and saw this 1/43 Kinsmart 1967 4-door Impala with opening front doors and a detailed interior. It's also a "pull-back" car that runs. Not sure if someone previously posted this car, but here's the blue version.
I also stocked up on Testor's bottle paints which they had for $1.99 per bottle.

Richie..that's a nice '67 Impala...with a 327 maybe??. How was the selection of other 1/43's at the store in NH??
This is the new Atlas 1/48 Jeep, which I ordered from Nicholas Smith Trains. Very nicely detailed model. I compared it to the Jeep’s from Menard’s, and it’s very slightly larger. It’s leading an expedition to recover a downed UFO from Area 51.

Paul - unfortunately, not that good. Most of the cars were in those flat boxes with cardboard slots for the cars to be displayed in. I only saw one 1/43 box and it had the Impala in blue, white and red colors and an Aston Martin in a couple of colors, which didn't appeal to me. The rest of the boxes were mixed 1/32 - 1/38 scales. I believe I paid $7-8 for the Impala.
My understanding has always been that for non-Corvettes, the crossed flags represent a Chevrolet "Performance Engine" and could have been (for 1967, anyway) from 327 to 427, depending on what number was inserted between the flags. A base 283 V-8 only had a small "V" and not the crossed flags.
This Impala diecast model has the crossed flags emblem on the front fender, but not enough detail for an actual engine displacement number. I'm guessing there weren't a lot of big-block 4-door Impala's
@Artie-DL&W love the theme you described and the scene you have set up- very nice! I purchased that same Jeep at Joe’s Train Station(in the Henning’s, NIck Smith, Joe’s Train station suburban Philly triangle-I know I’m forgetting someone). Very cool. Who makes the vehicle behind it?
Hi Steve, yes, I still need to visit Hennings and Joe’s when I next get down to visit family in Folsom. The half-track behind it is from Menard’s. They also make a nice jeep, and I missed out on buying a deuce and a half they offered.
Here’s the whole Area 51 layout.

Those of you who know my model work know I do not do whimsical stuff on my layout (which is ironic as I used to be a standup comedian and have been published as a cartoonist in several papers and magazines over the years. I have a very active sense of humor).
That said, I needed to take photos of a neat model of the APC from the classic sci-fi movie, "Aliens", which appears to me to be about 1/48 scale or so. I found this a couple years ago at a local comic book store, and they're pretty hard to find now.
It was made by NECA Cinemachines.
So, I guess this really confused the locals on Stoney Creek, thinking maybe it's a captured German vehicle brought back to the states for testing?

Lee very neat looking I’m surprised a crowd hasn’t gathered yet. I agree it does look like a German WWII contraption.
Gentlemen I need some opinions. I recently picked a Dodge Charger RT and a Plymouth Road Runner at Walmart. They are JADA Big Time Muscle die cast cars. In the store they looked about the right size so I took a shot. Once home I took the Charger out of the box and it's marked 1:32 scale. here are some pictures of it nestled between a Welly '53 Ford Crestliner, believed to be 1:43 and a Matchbox '55 Chevy pickup stamped 1:43
And here it is with 1:32 First Gear Tow truck.
So what do you guys think 1:32 or something closer to 1:43? I was going to use these two cars in a Mopar car rally scene with other 1:43 Mopars and some GM and Ford interlopers of various mfr. Unfortunately those vehicles have recently been stored and aren't readily accessible to compare the vehicles that would actually be in close proximity.
Attachments
Joe,
That Charger is certainly closer than 1:32 than anything that would really work for O scale. Sorry!
Coach Joe: to me it does not look too far off 1/43. Remember that IRL that 53 Ford would have been shorter, more narrow, and higher than a Dodge Charger R/T as most modern cars moved in the direction of lower and longer in progress from the 50's. You could get the length of the actual car likely from the internet and compute the actual scale. P.S. thank goodness you didn't by a "Super Bird" Dodge or it would really look long (LOL).
Best Regards
Don
Coach Joe,
First of all, that Charger looks great. I think you can get away with it just fine with the Ford and the nifty Walker tow truck (boom?). Next to the Matchbox, it seems too off scale but some of that may be due to the camera angle/lens. Of course, it all depends on your "standards" <-- See what I did there?
Tomlinson Run Railroad
Coach - it definitely looks a little larger than 1/43rd scale, but I think it will look just fine with your other cars with a little work on how you stage everything and a little forced perspective.
Some cars are always going to be bigger than others, even in the same scale. After all, a 1/43 Vega is going to be a lot smaller than a 1/43 Bonneville.
Don I do have a Charger Daytona with the wing squirreled away. I wish it was handy because it would reside close to these two I bought.
Lee, once I looked at the pictures it did look closer to the First Gear 1:32 tow truck than it did to my eye in person. Sitting next to each other I thought it too small but in the picture it looks right.
I think these two nice looking cars are going back to the store. I've got enough vehicles of various sizes that I don't need to holding on to more if I can't use them with the trains.
Thanks to everyone that chimed in.
Here’s the tanker picking up a load of crude oil from the holding tank in the background, while a worker checks the quality of the pump’s output. (Hey, it’s my world and that’s the way it works!)

Hi Ted, been waiting to hear from you. It was a new challenge to put leds a switch and battery inside the old dinky but I think it works. Thanks for the kudos.
Coach, I think that Charger is acceptable, I think you can pull it off with careful placement. I say go for it.
And Artie, beautiful scene with your new tanker. Looks great.
Joel
Joe, just looking at the photos, and from experience, I would guess the Dodge is a 1/40 scale. Many sold in stores are in that scale. If you go back a few pages, I posted how to measure these cars to get the scale. I don't have the formula with me as I am up at my summer house working'... 1/40 will fit in with most of your 1/43 and smaller vehicles'...

Just got a catalog from that Die-cast co.( I don’t want to mention names- not sure if they advertise here), and they have a sale on small items, such as 1/48 garage tools, tires, sacks, track gang tools, milk cans, oil barrels, and such. It turns out there were more options on their site, than in the catalog.
Hi guys, great photos, Joe I am sorry about the car size. I always look when I am at walmart to see if there is something that will work and sometimes its a hit and others its a miss! LOL But I have learned that the distance from the web of my thumb and index finger is 5" and I know thats about the right scale!
Sorry I havent commented sooner as I have been busy with the house and dog!

Artie. If it’s Diecast Direct there a sponsor
Joel and Ted, thanks for your input. If the Charger and Road Runner had been bought for general placement on the layout I believe they would work, however the intended use would have them next to other muscle cars of that era that unfortunately just got stored so a direct comparison wouldn't be easy at this time. So rather than hold onto them and hope the work in the future I've decided to return them. If the scene I've got planned ever makes it to a layout it'll be fine without the extra vehicles.
Thanks, Lee, yes, it’s Diecast Direct.

Not sure how many guys here collect Brooklin automobiles, but if you’re interested, there will be a new, North American based Brooklin Collectors Club to be directly affiliated with the Brooklin factory in U.K.
Besides having an already great selection of period cars for many of our modeling interests’/years, we will/should have a direct ear to the factory for what is needed in for the North American market.
If interested, just reply to this post and when official information becomes available, we can just add on to this thread… or start a new one.

Charlie, sounds like a plan'... makes good sense'... Let's hope it happens'...
Thanks Charlie for posting there are some Brooklin collectors on here I’m sure
I look for Brooklins modeling 1940 and prior, and even sent them an email suggesting they do 1933 and 1934 Hupmobile models, as wildly different, and different from each other. Got a response (noncommittal). There were a large number of auto makes in the steam era much of the population never heard of, but one many have was Auburn, that l should have also suggested. I have seen a photo of a Auburn waiting at a Rio Grande Southern (the Galloping Goose road) in the period.
I would like to check out Brooklyn cars as well.
I used to like the looks of Brooklins till Neo and Whitebox and others came along with better details but Brooklins are still a classic. For Truck Models you guys need to check out DeHanes models (no longer in business) there 1/55 scale but if you like collecting there nice just off scale

I have to admit, that I never heard of the name before, but I have seen images of this classic design. I guess I just assumed it was some part of one of the big names today.
I would be interested in these as well.
My personal compass has shifted a bit toward to small utility trucks, delivery vans etc. I have enough "nice" cars, but now I need more "working" cars and small trucks.

If you are referring to the yellow and black coupe it's a Ford or Mercury, not a Dodge. It's about a 1955 "Sun Liner" (??? not sure of the model name anymore). Our local Presbyterian minister had a Mercury in aqua and white, but his didn't have the Continental spare tire.
And your "Jaguar" 540K is a Mercedes 540K. It's on my "Someday.....maybe" list of cars.
You have good taste.
The yellow and black car was a '55 Ford Crown Victoria with a "glass top", i.e., see through tinted glass over the front seat. Perhaps precurser to the sunroofs offered today.
I'm going to attach pictures from my layout including my firetruck and chief's car show, my House on the layout which depicts my '68 Ford Galaxie fastback, my late wife's Metropolitan, my son's red Jeepster all of which we actually owned. Also, my Cadillac sitting outside a caboose at the Red Caboose Motel near Lancaster Pa. where I visited 2 years ago staying in that Reading RR caboose and my Cadillac. Also I have a model of a Presidential '56 Cadillac flanked by 2 police cars. Finally my Car Show featuring the Bullitt Mustang, and Sonny Corlione's Lincoln Continental.

Couple cool buys/finds over the last 4 weeks I’ve been meaning to post but haven’t gotten around to it. So here we go!
First, I had gone through a Land River Phase- BIG TIME, in April. Mainly ended up focusing in on Corgis from the 60s. Really wanted a 1/43-1/50 Scale Defender But has a tough time landing one.
Bought a lot on eBay with 5 60s/70s Corgis. Three are in the pics below:
green Series 1 with whiz wheels. Also new is the Mustang convertible by New Ray
found these and a red 58 Pontiac Bonneville at my pop’s over Easter. Love the billboards and facts that come with them!
opened up the Pontiac first- also got wheels on my Dinky Horsebox van!
opened up the 55 Chevy last week. Holding off on the other two until needed
And Of course some new military vehicles too! UN truck by Russian manufacturer, crossing the intersection is a Dinky 3 ton army wagon(big improvement over the 623 army wagon for fitting troops) with some of the n, behind that is a Corgi US army Land Rover
UN truck with top on. Also picked up the Bedford O Army Stores truck from the Corgi D-day 40th anniversary set
Dinky supertoys 10 ton army in the middle- came with the tin cover and I have figures with pegs tha can fit in the holes
Last shot. Features some of the new vehicles from above as well as a white 57 Ford Thunderbird by Ertl (from a porcelain diorama set) and a Solido “Hi Fi” navy 190 Mercedes pulling into the circus pre-show

Sorry for the blurry pictures, I copy the images from one of the videos on my YouTube channel

Very cool Artie, Looks like one of those top dollar cars sold on the internet and if you got it from CVS you really scored!
Thanks, Mike. IIRC, it was only a couple of dollars, disassembled with a screwdriver, and then I just painted the components. I had another one I painted dark green, and it was a stake truck with a bunch of sacks for a load. I don’t know if I gave that one away, or what.
@Capetrainman posted:Hi guys...I can see by your postings over the last several days I've missed quite a lot...nothing new on my layout at the moment. We had a death in the family a couple of weeks ago and just haven't had time to contribute here.
Hey Paul:
Sorry to hear about the family matter.
When you have a moment, can you please contact me (e-mail in profile) regarding the Brooklin Collectors Club and your interest.
Thanks Paul.

Lee Drennen - great military model, the "eye slit" covers on the headlights is a wartime modification not too many people might have modeled correctly. Super job. Artie - love what you did with that CVS model, I always check the CVS car bin when I am in the store as well. Great job. Pennsyfan - nice tribute to your son in law, bet he feels good about it too. Rattler-21 that truck looks much more realistic and well used now ...good work.
Here is a shot in "Small Town" of the local McDonalds parking lot on Saturday at lunchtime. The "Sun-O" delivery truck is a CVS buy and the red sedan inside of the '54 Chevy Convertible is a Tootsietoy from my youth. Those Racoons are having lunch too
Have a great Saturday

Curt, as a former film archivist for over forty years, if that’s not from “Bullitt”, I’m going to be embarrassed!
Lee, Don, and Bob, nice work!
I've never even seen the film, but I too was gonna guess Bullitt. :-) Beautiful cars.
The best car chase scene of any movie ever made. Steve Mc Queen is still the best. Yes, it is “Bullitt”. Did you see where the ‘68 Mustang GT used in the movie sold for $3.7 million last winter? Artie, you and I must be about the same age, to remember this one.
Hey TomlinsonRunRR, you need to make it a point to see the movie. Granted the movie wasn’t one of the best, but the car and Steve Mc Queens driving is award winning.
Yes, it’s an amazing movie for the driving sequences alone. Yeah, Curt, I’m 74, and retired from the Museum of Modern Art, and ran their Film Preservation Center from when we built it in 1996, until I retired in 2015. Formerly, we stored the collection in Fort Lee, NJ
Artie
Indeed one of the best car chase films in history. 1968, I watched this again the other night on TCM. It never gets old'. No academy award, but a darn good movie. Of course I was a fan of Steve McQueen;,,, Nice scene you have put together'...👍

Well Curt, I am a big fan of black Dodge Chargers. :-) I'm sure I've seen snippets of the chase scene. By the way, who makes the Charger in your scene reenactment?
It is a 1/43 scale die cast made by Road Signatures ( old Mat Ying company) and I purchased it from Diecast Models Wholesale in California. I checked their inventory and looks like they are out of the Charger right now. They have the Mustang for $12.99. I am sure other sources like 3000 Toys might have it. I hope you can find it.

Nice modeling, and nice police car, Pete!

Richie, nice paint scheme on the Ford cruiser...looks like the perfect matching color scheme used to this day The era, '52 Ford maybe, reminds me of the Norman Rockwell painting for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post, showing a Mass state trooper sitting on a stool having lunch at a diner next to an admiring young kid with freckles...a favorite cover of mine...
Speaking of Dodge Chargers, here is the one similiar to the car used in the movie, Christine (1983). The GM guys were shut down at this rally...

More fun at the railroad crossing in my best attempt to create a vignette.
First we have the blending of the decades with a 1960's Batmobile, 1970's Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino, 1980's A-Team GMC Vandura, all waiting at the crossing for a 2000's livery Tri-Rail to go by.
Now with the roadway widened to 4 lanes and all 3 vehicles going in the same direction
Now, back to business. As is the custom, and All Points Advisory BOLO has been issued for the A-Team and law enforcement from several jurisdictions spanning the country (Bay City, Broward County Sheriff, NYPD) along with the Dynamic Duo are hunting for the A-Team... who are currently tucked away in the drive-thru at Starbucks awaiting their order.

Great photos everyone! Paul you always have the cars many would want! MOPAR
Richie, outstanding police car ! Did you restore and repaint that one?
Pete, your cop car is as sharp as well!
Kevin, looks like you have all the bases covered! But its so funny no matter how law enforcement tries that just cant catch the A team!
jackiejr, wonderful scene at the loading docks looking back towards town!
As for me nothing new, this nice weather and the CEO projects are just killing me! LOL I did get 9 more people painted Ted! LOL
Mike...it's my way of bringing back the good ole days and having all the cars I never had...glad you like them! There may be a major GM, Ford, and Chrysler rally coming to North Main Street real soon...stay tuned!

Mike - no I didn't restore the Mass. state police car. I found it in a display cabinet at a great old-fashioned, brick 'n mortar, train and model kit store in Peabody, Mass called Northeast Trains. They have a strong web presence as well and their track-cleaning car is one of the best around.
Also, for those interested, DD just got in some new stock, including an array of 1/43 New Ray classic 50's-60's era cars (Buick, Caddy, Olds, GTO, 'Vette, etc.) for only $7 each. I picked up all six and will post pics when they arrive.
Finally got the first rally of the summer organized! Chevys, Fords and Chryslers all made an appearance on North Main...!

Attached is a picture of my car show on my layout. It is reminiscent of one held annually at the North Carolina Transportation Museum which I attended with my Chrysler 300L convertible in the past. My show features the Bullit Mustang and the Sonny Corleone Lincoln Continental. I also have a fire truck show on another part of my layout.

David there is no picture. When was this show at the NCTM? My first real job as a fire suppression designer fellow older designer had a 30L blue convertible with white interior. I had a1965 Dodge Monaco 426ci w/4-speed.

Nice group of cars. who made them?
Hi Coach,
They are all made by New Ray and available from DD for less than $7 apiece. The GTO is a little less "metal flaky" appearing than the picture makes it show.
There is also a 4-4-2 convertible available, possibly a W-30 version if I recall correctly.

I too have one of these models but am disappointed they are not the hard tops. To the best of my recollection there never was a convertible. Dose anybody know other wise?

Wow, great looking cars everyone! I really like the car shows and the Fire engine show! I wish I had something to offer, but as most of you probably know I have done a tear down of most of my layout to redo it. It has been taking awhile to get things down as I have to work around things as I have limited space to store things!
This was kind of a neat deal. On a trip to to see my brother in Knoxville, Tenn., I stopped at several Love’s stations for gas and munchies and of course, to use their restroom facilities. I was real impressed with how friendly their employees were, so I wrote a letter to the head office complimenting their customer service(something which I never do). I also said that I loved the look of their tanker trucks, very impressive. Well, two weeks later this showed up with a letter thanking me for the kind words and for patronizing their businesses. It is 1:52 scale and would look great on the layout, but I haven’t had the nerve to take it out of the original display package.

That's a beautiful truck and a good story to go with it, Curt. (I complimented Pepperidge Farm on their chocolate chunk cookies once, and got a coupon for a free package. Needless to say, they are gone, unlike your tractor trailer).
Here's one of the odder cars of history (but a big seller) - a Citroen 2CV. It's by Maisto and I believe it is about 1/50 scale. I bought it around 30 years ago.

Mike, first I'm reading about your layout tear-down! Brings backs memories of when I made the decision to to down mine in our last home before moving to where we are now. It was one heck of a project...I'm leaving my current layout for sometime else to do the tear down
Do you have a plan for re-build yet??
Hey Mike, we don’t care if you are not posting pictures right now. We just like to hear from you. Curt
Hey TrainsRMe, very cool car and is probably a collectible being that old. Curt
I picked this guy up for $2.00 at a local car show this weekend. I disassembled it for cleaning, fixing and some detailing. Painted over some funky chrome and black plastic with a hammered finish spay paint.
The guy threw in these 2 trailers. I'm gonna use the wheels/tires for pick-up truck loads and behind gas station trash. The trailer bodies will be painted and become storage containers.

When my wife and I crossed the country on a sightseeing trip by highway, we often stopped at Love's stations and they were always consistent and the people nice.
One opened just south of here, and I often go past it to photo/watch trains. I stop by there all the time to use their restrooms, get gas, or buy cheap eats/drinks.
Larry, I really like how the hammered paint looks'... Very cool'.. Nice touch up job..

It’s been some time since I posted in this thread—too busy for social media. But here we go:
This utility truck was made from a 1/43 Ford Illinois Central pick up truck, combined with the body from a couple of miscellaneous trucks. Your bandsaw is your friend if you want to disassemble, re-cut, and reassemble diecast truck parts.
The milk tank truck is a highly modified champ of the road Union 76 oil tanker. The Union 76 was too new for my era (NHRR, late 1960s), so clearly something needed to be done so it could be moderately appropriate. Moser Farms is a large milk and juice processor in the area.
This tractor-trailer is composed of an Ertl cab and an undecorted 32’ Berkshire Valley trailer, which I painted and decaled for the transportation subsidiary of the NHRR. Yes, the decals are accurate.
Another BV trailer On a restored “basket case” TOFC 85’ flat car. I had decals custom-printed for the NETCO trailers. Five are done, and now I’m repainting some of those excellent Lionel 20’ pup trailers to go in the Lionel TOFC cars.
Last for today is another CHAMP-of-the-Road 40’ van painted and lettered for Dubuque.
It has been a busy year, but now our entire operating group (all double-vaccinated-a requirement) has resumed operations! I’ve done a lot of work on this railroad and the vehicles are a real enhancement for the operators (8-15 people on a 32x55’ NHRR Layout, all TMCC/Legacy ). Great Fun, and thanks for reading😊
Happy Trainin’ & Truckin’
Take care of and protect your health, your family, and your friends.

John, nice haul for $2.00.
Wonderful work everyone!
Curt, Great looking Loves tractor and trailer! I also like the story on how you got it! As for me not saying much, thats a first for me! LOL Between the tear down and getting ready for our road trip to ND I have been kind of busy and by the end of the day its just time for dinner, shower and bed!
Paul, At the rate I am going I am thinking this will be my last tear down! LOL I know its going to be a slower rebuild as I want to do things right the second time around. Clean up the wiring, do a better job on the scenery, but most of all I just want to have fun!
John, great buy!
Kwiser, very nice collection, I love the batmoble in action!
Don, Great job on all the reclaims of the truck and trailers for a new and better life on your layout!
I hope everyone has a great 4th of July weekend! I will be on the road and might not be back for 2-3 weeks! You all take care now!
