Back to 1992 at the Lionel Visitors Center

Not sure if this was brought about before, but I found this video online, and it was a great nostalgia trip.

Shot back when Lionel's Modern Era showroom layout was still in their headquarters in Chesterfield, Michigan.

I forgot how cool this layout actually was, and it looked great with the old Lionel favorites like the Amtrak GG1 and the Chessie Steam Special running on it. Not to mention the wall of history and the Large Scale/Standard Gauge under the ceiling.

*sigh* Man, I'm getting old, and I'm only 22...

You can still go visit this one at the Riverhead L.I. New York site of the Railroad Museum of Long Island. It has been modified a bit but most of it is still recognizable for what it was. It is conveniently accessible by train as well (always a plus).

That layout was built by volunteer employee's and local toy train nuts. It bothered me and many others that Lionel did not donate it locally.
