Hey Folks,
Who makes the best looking Susie-Q green boxcar?
And, forgive my ignorance, but is this a traditional car or a scale car?
Thanks,
Mannyrock

I have 2 Atlas O steel rebuilt USRA boxcars and I like them a lot. They are scale cars and models of 40 ft boxcars. many USRA wood side cars were rebuilt with steel sheathing.
FRANK'S ROUNDHOUSE made in USA
Lionel makes a Standard O car, probably the easiest to procure. Def. a plain Jane (Susie Q?) compared to the Altas & Frank Rash iterations.
My MTH Susie-Q boxcar. I can’t say it’s the best looking because I haven’t seen another, but it looks good to me!

Atlas has the best
Thanks for all of the info and pictures.
As for the Atlas car, do Atlas couplers line up and work well with standard Lionel lobster claw couplers? Almost all of my boxcars are 1980s to 2000 Lionels.
(I recently bought a beautiful NIB "Johnny Walker Red" boxcar made by Lionel in the early 80s. I couldn't believe that it had extremely cheap plastic trucks with thumb-tac uncoupler buttons, and the trucks were mounted with a small aluminum rivet. They work OK, but still . . . . what a waste of a beautiful boxcar body.)
Thx,
Mannyrock
Manny rock, Atlas couplers should work well with Lionel and any of the other O gauge manufacturers. I have no problem with my Atlas cars.

The only company, in my limited experience, to have significant (and I have no idea of the frequency thereof), coupler height mismatches, is Williams, and I can’t comment if it carried over to Williams by Bachmann. Their couplers on 3 of my approx. 8 Williams freight cars ride higher than Lionel, MTH, Weaver, and K-Line.
I thought y'all were talking about the Hostess cakes!
Mark, I haven't had any coupler problems with Williams, but you reminded me the coupler height on most of my Weaver cars is too low. I think Weaver cars are not up to the quality of Lionel. MTH, K-line and Atlas.

Atlas O gets my vote
FWIW, the Lionel 9400 series offering in the early/mid 1980's has very decent graphics, considering its era.
Much better than most of the 9700 and 9400 series box cars.
