Best way to tightly fit Lionel O gauge track sections | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Hello everyone,

I am using Lionel O gauge track for the first time. The track is new and I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for getting the sections to join up tightly other than asking King Kong for help. I have found out the hard way that you should wear gloves. I don't want to wiggle the sections to much that I will create loose or bad electrical connections. Do the sections need to close up completely without any of the pin surface showing? I hope this question is not too elementary for Forum members but I am sure someone has a suggestion or two.

I like to tap the end without pins with a small hammer. You're right about the gloves. To make the joining initially easier you can also insert just one pin into three holes sequentially to enlarge before assembling.

Take one piece in hand and run one of the pins of it into each rail end of the track you want to plug another into. That will loosen the rails enough to make it possible to put track together, but not too loose. Yep, use those gloves!

There is a device advertised in the model rr magazines that pulls the sections

together -- device is somewhat pricey.
