Does this qualify?
It's a Lionel limited edition Hogwart's Express box car made by RGS Trains in 2001, custom painted with classic Harry Potter graphics. I don't know how many were made but neither I nor anyone I know have ever seen one before so I 'm guessing it would qualify as both a special item and also rare.
Anyone have additional information on this box car other than what I've already stated?

It its a real train and not a mock up or replica then is 1:1 really a scale or is it just a train?
Not terribly "earth shattering". I picked up a NOS Lionel NYC 40' faltcar with a removable load.
This is a nice fairly detailed diecast steam era flatcar. It even has a brakewheel so it won't runaway like the Menards flatcar when parked on a siding.

Yes,I know this. Just saying in over 30 years as a hard core train fan, I've never seen a copy of this anywhere.

I've been an avid historian and collector of WW2 US war correspondent stuff for several years, have written and done TV work on the subject...
Haven't even unboxed it yet, but picked up m.o.w. Legacy crane and railsounds car today at sidetrack hobbies.

Bought a nice thick book on American cable cars. Neat book with lots of maps, drawings and photos showing lots of tech and engineering info. Including how they made the big cables they used. Lots of good reading for $6. The woman at the antique store said they can't keep old Lionel trains around very long-they fly out as soon as they come in. Need a good dealer with lots of stock in Selma,NC !! Need some real trains coming through, too.

yesterday received 3 of the Lionel 65 ft mill gondolas. VBG Of course one is a BNSF another is NS and the third is CSX. I will unpack them Sunday and take to club on Friday to run a bit. Hopefully no problems with packing like the Lionel scale box cars.
I didn't buy it although I sure wanted to - a nice, original Lionel Hellgate bridge. First one I have ever seen in the flesh. Complete, original paint with some surface rust in spots. My book says $800 in "good" condition. Is that accurate ??
