I think that some of you guys are confusing JoeG a bit here. Especially after he inadvertently said 'Walmart' instead of 'wallwart'. 

 

JoeG, the power supply for your base will only power the command base, and should be plugged directly into a wall socket for the best results. Some extension leads don't have a very good ground connection, and that is important for TMCC.

 

However, you will still need an AC power supply for running the trains. If you have an existing AC transformer, you can use that. Just turn the power all the way up for command control running. If you don't have an existing AC power supply, then a Lionel 180W brick is a very good choice. But almost any 18v AC power supply can be used. Until I bought some transformer bricks, I used a couple of CW-80 transformers to power my Legacy locomotives. I just connected one to each track, and turned the handles up to full power.
