Before I give up on it I figured why not ask here. I am working on a 1952 2025 engine here that will NOT stop squeaking for more than 10 minutes. I have already replaced both the brush plate AND the other side which is the bearing plate. Every axle and moving piece and gears have been lubed. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the armature bearing plate. I tried dressing that armature gear a bit and tried Lucas, Labelle, and Lubriplate grease, and oils of different type. About every 10 minutes if that, you have to oil that armature end again. I have never seen one this bad before. It looks to me like maybe the end of the armature may be slightly bent. Is this the problem? Help please before I go postal.

Rob,

Did you replace the brushplate with a brand new one? It sounds like the brushplate is the culpret. The new reproduction plate available now are tight and need to be run in for a few minutes. Also the indent on the brushplate are not perfect and if you try to match the divot with the hole in the motor frame it will bind the armature. file the divot off the brushplate and use a small round file to adjust the screwholes a touch till the armature spins free.

Chuck, I can try your suggestion, but re-oiling the other side, the metal bearing plate, is what stops the squeak for a short time. I replaced both sides. I should also add that the engine squeaks on the same section of track every time for some reason. It is always at the end of a straight going right hand into a 072 curve section. It will run quietly for about 10 minutes after oiling, then begins squeaking again until re-oiled.

If it helps anyone else in the future I found the source of the squeak. The end of the armature shaft was poorly machined and the gear was very poorly machined as well. I broke out a file and emery sanding board and cleaned them up. Over an hour heavy run time and no squeak. Thanks for all the suggestions.
