Im trying to update to latest firmware with seial to usb im using my y that came with 990 legacy base plugged in back and serial side connected to usb . i inserted my black reprogrammable moduale in base. I start program finds port says connected to base. Then when i try to download firmware it says Communication error-No response from base.
Am i missing something

Yes, 1.2 cannot write a module. If you had a preloaded module with 1.3 or higher, then that could update the base, however clearly you missed that 1.3 is the requirement to be able to self write your own modules.

Yes, from another member on a physical memory module or take your module to their base with 1.3 or higher and then they can write it.

If you don't take gunrunnerjohn on his offer, consider sending the Cab-2 and Base to Lionel. Also, I don't know if shipping from and to Canada would be an issue. Note that after watching videos on upgrading the Base and Cab-2 using the modules is pretty straight forward.
I recently had the same situation and called Lionel Customer Service and was able to get a Return Authorization. I mentioned that I could not find the sales receipt. I was told it would be 6 to 8 weeks, but got the set returned in 2-1/2 weeks after I sent them in.

My local hobby shop asked some of there customers if they had a spare 1.3 module. Someone brought it in. And I was able to upgrade my cab2 and base.
