The 773 Hudson offered in CC1 was as close to scale as its 1950 original. The tender is foreshortened from the original 700E but as long as the 1950 version was. It is a nice runner as well. 

In theCCII series, Lionel offered add on car sets for the Niagara ( Milk Train) , The FM Demonstraters ( PS-1 box car sets lettered for FM owners}, and the PRR Sharks ( PRR Coal Train) . These were scale sized offerrings.

For the Empire steet Hudson, There was a 7 car set of Lionels  18 inch passenger cars including a Sound car. These cars are actually a bit longer than 18 inches. They have correct window arrangements and many correct details for the cars. The window arrangement is as the prototype but slightly compressed so that it fits on the shorter car body. 

I have worked on many TM sets.  Bad traces on the boards always seem to be an issue.   A bit of hard wiring around the lifted traces and you are better than new.  In the last six months I have seen a few Niagara locomotives come from the display case to the track.  One great looking locomotive with some headaches.  Hard to believe they made that engine without metal gears in the gear box.  Have replaced my share of split nylon drive shafts.  The nightmare is the cherry switch.  I stay clear of these to buy.

We are so lucky Lionel has Ryan and Dave today.  The remake of the Niagara will have none of these old short cuts.  I confirmed with them the new Niagara will have metal gears and a good driveshaft.  I wanted to know this before I ordered two of them.  I had a few Niagara locomotives and sold them when the market was good on them.  

LIRR, the 1950 is the good one.
