Changing Couplers on Lionel Madison Passenger cars

Has anyone dared to change the couplers on their Lionel Madison style Passenger cars? I've got a collection of Milwaukee Road Passenger Cars with what I think are hokey couplers and I was wondering if anyone has done this and what type/ style fo couplers a guy would want to use. Thanks.
