Hey Guys,

This is a good local show that some people apparently have forgotten about. The stuff

that appears on the dealers tables is always interesting and useful. Many 3-railers are able to obtain things they need without having to go on the internet to find, and this is a 2-rail show. An added feature is that the CV railroad is open and running. We encourage folks to bring their locomotives and/or rolling stock to run on the railroad, DC or DCC (for free). We are also the first show of the season every year in the northeast so a great way to get rid of "cabin feaver".

Hope to see you all in Sept.

Buzz

Chris, Buzz and Others,

I was hoping that the show would be in early June, timewise, right in the middle of the first and second Strasburg shows.  I know the National is at the end of June but not everyone goes to it.  Four months between shows (April to August) is about as long as the Winter offseason.  Can anything be done to move the Cherry Valley show to early June for next year?

Regards,

Ed

Ed,

Several years ago we did have our "first" show in late May. Somehow I believe we conflicted with someone elses show and when Dave Richter gave up the Wind Gap dates we kind of assumed them to avoid any conflicts. I don't remember the actual reason for the shift....maybe one of the other members can give you a more definative answer.

Guys,

Let's give this a try:

* +March

*   April

   +May

     June

   +July

*    August

*  +September

      October

*  +November

The * indicates the current schedule for John and Rich's shows and the Cherry Valley Club.  The National is at the end of June.  The + indicates the schedule I propose for our local shows, every 2 months.  All it takes is a little coordination between John, Rich and the Cherry Valley Club.

My $0.02.

Regards,

Ed

Ed,  There are many other shows that some of us attend. Not just 2 rail "O" shows at Merchantville and Strasburg. What about the York TCA toy train Show in April?   What about Timonium train shows? What about the large scale Train show in at York? What about the Metro West show in  Hudson Mass. What about Cabin Fever at York? - and the list goes on. Hey some of us have other interest. Gun shows. Farm shows. Coin shows. Toy Shows, Boat Shows, Craft shows - Gotta keep the wife happy. To much of one thing can water it down that has been my concern for a long time. In California the "O" scale modelers have one big show per year. "O" Scale West. The only reason Strasburg works is because it's a place to go that has other "Fun" things family can enjoy. Rich,

I understand but you missed the point.  I was not asking that the number of shows be increased but only that they be spaced in time every 2 months instead of bunching them up.  March and April shows are back to back monthly.  Then there is a 4 month gap until the August show with another back to back  show in September.

As I said, just my $0.02.

Didn't miss the point Ed. We have been there and done that. Spacing shows is only a problem if you think it's a problem.  John and I do not want to step on the toes of other show promoters and vice versa. So we carefuly scheduled our shows around other shows and "those other individual show promoters who are will " consult with us. Why does the Metro West group aways hold a show in late March or early April? Why does the Oklahoma / Texas group always hold their  show in late September early October? Why is The Chicago Show always St Patricks Day weekend? It  comes down to people knowing what works best for them in their back yard.  We do the same thing. You haven't been there and done that. Dave Richter  did what worked best for the "Eastern O Scalers" as Dave saw it. Daves August show was in the smallest hall he rented. 30 walk in people made the Denver PA show look full. It was always crowed but it was the smallest of the small.    The Most recently under attended show was the 2012 "O" scale National last year in Parsippany, NJ from Thursday July 19th through Sunday July 22nd, 2012. How many people out there supported that show in the middle of the summer? answer - few. That group of people pulled together a great show. But far to few attended.
It isn't as easy as we would like it to be. You can't force people to go.
By the way, the The O Scale  National is in Worcester Massachusetts June 25th to the 29th. Lets all get out and support their efforts.

Too many shows too frequently is problem; the immediately past Timonium show was very poorly attended.  A lot of the major vendors were not there, too.  I guess if you like to look at modular layouts it could have been good.  I understand that this show will probably cut back to twice a year in the near future.
