Fantastic Tom... thanks for posting. Love steamers (especially NYC). Have to agree with Steamer - it’s so much better when you get to enjoy the rhythm of the rails instead of the insipid music they usually add (and “hokey” and insipid are being more than generous!!!).

Very nice quality video.   I loved the shot of the train yard with all the steam engines chuffing away.  The Manhattan traffic vs. train scene was very educational.  And, like Peter, I thought the framing of the tunnel shots was great.

Speaking of the quality...when I saw it was a pretty short video, I was not expecting too much, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it was filmed (at least for most of it) for 1928-29.

The fact that this is accurate contemporaneous audio at that early date always amazes me. Also, I always get a kick out of the switcher engineer mimicking a crank camera motion at 6:42. Railroad life as at was 90 years ago.

Yes...I saw his cranking motion and gave him credit for being able to do that along with everything else going on around him.

That was great. I especially enjoyed the scene towards the end where one train came behind then was speeding past the other which was just starting from the stop. Ah, NYC rails along the Hudson.

Great old footage Tom. Funny how even back then people were playing chicken with trains at grade crossings.

I liked the engineer cranking the movie camera too!

The video was amazing.  I watched it thought just how dangerous walking a top of the cars while the train was in motion must have been.

Thank you, I really enjoyed this historic film. Especially enjoyed the engineer and traffic cop looking toward the camera, and the bridge and yard scenes.
