I was running at a show this past weekend. As I pulled the cars off the track and boxed them up, I noticed that I have a major wheelset cleaning session (or more likely several sessions) ahead of me. The treads are GRIMMY! What method do you use to quickly and efficently clean your wheels? In the past, I've used a hobby knife and patience, and have ended up with mostly clean wheels and very black fingers.

I use a small flat blade screwdriver to scape the wheels first, a hobby knife tends to scratch the wheels too easily.  The same goes for a wire brush/dremel.  I feel that wheels that are very smooth pick up less gunk.  Then I use paper towels and goo-gone to completely clean the wheels, and yes, I also end up with black fingers.  I follow that up with q-tips to dry off the wheels.  Sometimes when I have a bunch of cars to clean I wear disposable plastic gloves.
