Long shot here:

Does anyone have the ladder that goes from the platform walkway to the ground for the Plasticville 45301 coal tower?

http://www.advantagehobby.com/.../BAC45301/?pcat=1313

Kludged two together from train show bargin tables to make one good weathered one except the long ladder to ground was missing for both ones (guess was easy to break off).  Don't imagine the 1:48 workers like climbing rope up and parachuting down to ground every day.

Jeb, I have two local sources for Plastistruct material including my LHS.  No rush to get these parts.

Dave, where the coal tower is, I have alot of space so the 12 inches won't be a problem, and may fill some area up in my new installed yard.

Granted the Plasticville structure isn't as fancy as ones I see advertised in back of OGR, but for few bucks spent at train show for the two kludged into one, I will take it.

rrman;

I agree, I had that coaling tower on my layout for years.

Trick for not eating a ton of space with the stairs, Turn them to run along the side of the tower.

The original goes straight but it is pretty steep.

It would Never pass code these days.

Note, one of these days I'm going to grab the topper kit I've seen for these, makes a big improvement in how they look.

What is the topper kit you are referring to? Part number, vendor?

Here ya go...

Mount Blue Link

Go to the O structures listing, item #1016.

Notice, also, their improvement on the PV truss bridge, item #1035-O. (It says "TBA" for price, but the website also sez it was last updated 1 year ago.)

Both of these items first gained fame when offered through MicroMark several years ago.  M/M dropped them...dunno why?...but Mount Blue was the mfr, anyway.

Check out their O products...pretty cool.

I've built the PV coal tower with the topper...added some details, lights, painted, weathered.  Looks nice...small footprint helps when loco terminal space is at a premium on the layout.

I thought Mount Blue was on the scenery source listings, but I can't find them.  I'll contact Dave Gauss to have it added.

I modified my PV tower with the Mount Blue topper, also.  As Russell sez, though, that ladder/stairway from the ground up to the first level is a killer!  I almost get vertigo looking at it and thinking about the poor hogger who would have to make that climb...in wind, rain, snow...whatever!

I've had my eye on this item from MicroMark...

MicroMark Stairway Link

I'd like to someday soon wrap a couple of flights of this neat item around the tower, adding some strip stock railings, to get my guys up to that first platform more safely...'to code', if you will.  I like the look of the 3-stringer stairs.

FWIW...
