Looking for information and pictures on which Eastern Railroad(s) had an agreement with a Western Railroad to transport 1 or 2 of their sleeper cars to California. The cars would be transfer in Chicago and attached to the California bound train.

20th Century Limited(NYC) - Chicago - The Super Chief(ATSF) beyond. There may have been through Pullman service via CRIP - Tucumcari - SP beyond. Probably an eastern road to St. Louis, SSW - Pine Bluff - SP beyond. An eastern road to Chicago, then CNW-UP to the coast. Chartered cars could run routes not normally offered. John in Lansing, ILL
The California Zephyer had both PRR and NYC through sleeping cars on it. As I recall they only ran a few days a week and were scheduled so it was one or the other, not both on the same train.
PC-SOU SOUTHERN CRESCENT NYP-NOL, then NOL-LAX SP SUNSET.
After May 1, 1971 same routing but Amtrak instead of PC and SP. Do not know when that ended.

Not CHI gateway, but NYP to CA through sleeper.
Through service at Chicago was possible but the NYC arrived at LaSalle Street station, while the Sante Fe arrived at Dearborn Station and the PRR arrived at Union Station. I believe that passengers used a jitney taxi service to travel between stations.
