I was attempting to rewire my layout with 14 gauge wire instead of the 18 gauge that's already there. I have had a much more difficult time trying to solder the wires to the track than I did with the 18 gauge wire. Do I have any other options as to how to connect the wires to the tracks? Is another set of 18 gauge wires from each block an option? Thank you for your time.

If you use a Weller 100-140 watt soldering gun with stranded #14, it should work well. I use #16 and solder it to Fastrack - no issues.

Ed is right, heat is the issue. 
Instead of solder, you can use spade terminals--crimp your wire on the connector and slip it between the bottom of the rails--a better version of LIONEL's lock-on. There was a thread on this very topic with pics and products w/in the past 10 days or so.
I prefer solder and use the same tool as Ed.

Went over to Menards and got a more powerful soldering gun. That did the trick. Thank you all for your replies.
