Here's how I created my postwar style "763W" tender from a K-Line Vanderbilt tender.

1st photo is the complete tender with a Lionel drawbar.  The Lionel drawbar has a rectangular hole.  The K-Line tender had a round hole.

I bought a junk tender for the drawbar.

  1. Cut off the trucks to extract the drawbar.
  2. Cut the Lionel drawbar to the same length as the K-Line drawbar with a cutoff disk.
  3. Shortened the K-Line drawbar 3/8".
  4. Drilled the K-Line drawbar 3/32".
  5. Drilled the Lionel drawbar 5/64" and tapped it 2-56.
  6. Bolted the two drawbars together with a 2-56 x 1/4" machine screw and bolt.  Trimmed bolt on top.
  7. Painted out the original lettering and added Lionel "Circe L" heralds.
