Custom Painters/Detailers Out There? (Unstoppable/Lone Ranger Projects)

This question gets asked a lot on this forum. The name you will hear most is Jeff Sohn who I believes lives in Illinois, and is a member of this forum. He has repainted a tinplate gateman for me and a few GG-1s for my friend Gerry Morlitz. He did a great job on the GG1s. His website is jeffscustompainting.com.

Erol, thanks for the posting here- Mikado- that particualr paint scheme would require some custom decals to be made. Does anyone have a photo of that engine from the movie?

Everyone has their opinion, and mine is for that paint scheme and the modifications you want done, you should check out Harry Heike at http://www.everythingoscale.com/ He has done engines for me and I have some of Harry's other work and he is the only one that I would recommend period.

I have Harry Hieke working on an engine for me now. He has been great to work with so far.

Mikado 4501, I have had Jrff Sohn paint MANY MANY Engines and cars for me. His work has always been GREAT for me. He is currently working on a pair of Engines for me that will look like the picture I will post below.

Harry Hieke did a great job of building,painting and weathering structures for me.
Long before,Jeff Sohn consistently did outstanding painting of steam locomotives for me as well as a complicated wreck derrick and tender.

Harry came through on my project and I'm very happy with it.

If it were my project, I would strongly consider Harry Heike for this project.  You could get the engine painted, maybe slightly weathered, and from what I've seend elsewhere Harry could also make the engine modifications that you would like.

I will echo Charlie's comments about the work of Harry Heike. Harry recently finished a very complicated project for me that included an engine and four K-Line passenger cars. I am waiting to finish the renovation work on my layout and I will then post photos of this fabulous one-of-a-kind passenger train set.

Jeff Sohn does a nice job.  He custom painted two engines for me.  He painted an F40PH with the old CalTrain livery (1990's).  He also custom painted an SD70M with the livery of our layout raiload, the Brisbane & Bushong RR.  Matt

With the recent Lone Ranger film, I will be going into another project to launch soon along with this Unstoppable one (since I recently purchased a power-dummy combination of Lionel Legacy SD40-2's), which is something quite a few other members seem keen on doing.

 

 

I'm quite impressed by MTH's newest ProtoSound 3.0 19th Century Ten-Wheeler in the 2013 Volume 2 catalog, and seem to have the most resemblance to the locomotives made for the film. Plus, the new one has the same white-wall drive wheels. Basically, the paint scheme isn't too complicated, it's the details that could get hard...

 

E.G. - change wood load to coal, change smokestack, front steps to add on, and extra handrail detail.

 

I've looked around for custom painters recently. Jeff Sohn has stopped his work, and Harry Heike's website isn't working. If anyone knows anyone who is currently still doing custom paint jobs, I'm still listening.~

Great photo of the train from The Lone Ranger!  Where did you find it?  I'm planning on either an HO or G scale version!

It's online on Google Images if you search under the lone ranger steam locomotives. Obviously it was taken before it was 100% completed.
