is is the one I am talking about. I understand the D.C.'s one will only control the D.C.'s units

That's not a "DCS Remote Commander", rather, it's the much older "Infrared Remote Control System". You misidentified it.

That system will run all conventional locomotives just as if you were using a transformer, only wirelessly. It will also operate any command (DCS, TMCC, Legacy, etc.) engines conventionally, again as if you were using a "wireless" transformer.

TRIPHAZARD,

A piece of advise from a guy who runs both DCS & Legacy, IMO if you have the money, invest in a full DCS package, the latest revision.  Eventually you are going to want to run both DCS and Legacy engines, the full DCS package will allow this to happen.  Further invest in Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd addition, and the OGR Video Guide to DCS, the visual video guide is a great introduction video, that saves a lot of time learning.  Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion is the exacting in-depth instructions on the complete DCS Package.  I recommend owning both.

IMO do not waste your money on a DCS Remote Commander, you will out grow it very very quickly.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going t just go ahead and setup my set for DCS. I actually think I like the way MTH is setup better. I am going to start with the remote DCS only because I need to make sure that's the way I want to go but I will be continuing to grow my equipment this year

any advice on how to setup the MTH remote commander on fastrack? Can I just is the wiring connectors from my power straight to the receiver?

any advice on how to setup the MTH remote commander on fastrack?

Proceed as follows if you already have a transformer connected to the tracks,:

  • Connect the receiver's red terminal to the Hot terminal on your track power transformer that is already connected to the center rail.
  • Connect the receiver's black terminal to the Common terminal on your track power transformer that is already connected to the outside rails.

Proceed as follows if you do not have a transformer connected to the tracks,:

  • Connect the receiver's red terminal to the to the center rail by any means necessary (solder, lockon, etc.)
  • Connect the receiver's black terminal to an outside rail by any means necessary (solder, lockon, etc.)
  • Connect a brick-type transformer to the receiver's power input connection.
