Anyone know if it is alright to leave the DCS wifi unit powered up continusly so you don't have to wait for a router connection?

It's just like any other piece of electronics or your computer. Same rules apply.

Also, note that if the WIU is connected to a Rev. L TIU via the TIU's USB port, the TIU will also be on continuously, however, there will be no DCS control avail;able since the USB port doesn't power the DCS signal generators.
