I have a set of 72 ft williams madison passenger cars which I just recently took out of the box and started using. 4 of the trucks fell apart almost immediatly after putting them on the tracks. They appear to be made of some pop metal that doesn't hold up. has anyone else experienced this problem? what is the solution to fix? I tried super glue but it doesnt hold up.

Don't have a solution, but there may not be one beyond getting replacement trucks.
Sounds like the metal itself was contaminated during the casting process, causing it to disintegrate months, maybe years after the fact.

I had that problem with a set of K-line HW cars....never heard of Williams having the issue. K-line sent me some new trucks. One more fell apart after K-Line went under and I was able to fix it with epoxy.
I know a few manufactures had issues with die cast metal (zymack??) at one time.
Never seen that happen to a Williams truck. I have owned hundreds of them over the years. No pot metal. Any chance you could give us a photo?
"pop metal" - an apt description for what should have been POT metal, sometimes called "white metal".
With modern metallurgical techniques, there is NO excuse except factory managers or their suppliers "cutting corners" with inferior materials!
Williams had a major issue with this years ago. I have a set of 8 DLG 18" PRR heavyweights I got off the forum 2 years ago the trucks were in many pieces in a bag. I am replacing them with sprung trucks from MTH.
I have had them all with no issues. Any pictures anywhere???
Marty,
I have had no issues either, however a while back, I heard about this and Williams replaced those faulty trucks, way late for that now however. The men will need to find replacement trucks now.

I have the same passenger cars. The only problem I've had is that some of the couplers are at different heights - not such a difference that they become uncoupled, but it just looks odd. I've always wondered if there is an easy adjustment for that. Does anyone have any tips on adjusting coupler heights?
One thing that may be pertinent, I got mine at a train show about 10 years ago before Bachmann took over.

Hopefully you will have better luck with those. A train buddy of mine bought a 5 car set of cars from MTH with the new multi-piece cast sprung trucks, and they all fell apart.

Bill,
I am not doubting about the truck assemblies breaking up, not after Bachmann took over Williams, they also had a batch of bad circuit boards about a year ago.
