Just curious as to whether there is a way to disable the command control feature of a Fastrack switch so that it only operates by hand or via the wired remote ?

If you do not address it then it’s a dumb switch, the wired remote will control it; or turning the lantern.
I had a problem with a command switch, It would not respond to the controller except to chatter in either direction. I got it to work by unplugging the command board. If you are willing to take the bottom cover off, then, yes you can disable command. I only have DCS, so no problem for me.
Here's what the circuit boards look like inside FasTrack switches. The blue circled board is the TMCC radio board. The easiest way to disconnect the radio board is to disconnect the 5 pin connector going to it from the main board (shown by the blue arrow in the picture below) .
Here's a close-up of the main board. The red arrow is pointing to the TMCC Radio label.
The way I disconnect these plugs is by using a pair of 45 degree bent nose pliers with teeth. Carefully gripping the sides of the female connector, slightly rock the connector side to side while pulling backwards.

A switch that chatters have an issue, command switches that are not (commanded) do nothing. If he stated the switch chattered than that’s another issue. Even then it is probably not the command board. Simple is always better when troubleshooting
Thanks everyone - I'll disconnect the connector that Steve pointed out.
I've had them apart many times and never noticed the "TMCC Radio" printed on the main board - must be old age.
