Hi John
Outstanding work !
Alex
Awesome.
Well John since you have not offered me hush money I guess I'm gonna have to tell her.
J Daddy, how did you paint the rocks?
Thanks for the "that a boy" guys.
Jim - let me at least get a couple of beers in her before you let the cat out of the bag...
Basil ... I used a spray bottle of acrylic mars black to pop the details...then I brushed on Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber, and Raw Sienna... let dry then sprayed acrylic mars on it again... let dry ... then dry brush titanium white for highlights...
John,
You really got that rock scene looking good quickly!
Oh geez paybacks are hell.
I have my Amateur Radio setup (Ham Shack) in a family room sort of room...and the train layout in there too. When I put in the Ham stuff, I brought my 4 inch open wire transmission line thru the attic and down from the ceiling directly to the rig, etc. Two 1.5 inch holes 4 inches apart with porcelain insulators on that side of the room. My wife entered the room, looked up and said "Oh my!...holes right in the ceiling?" She has gotten used to it...hardly looks up at it after 17 years.

Oh, I think she'll notice when the helix goes in to take the trains upstairs.
that is what i need, a helix to get from here to the upstairs trains......in video....hmmm.
getting the wood ready.....LOL

I think you have more of a train house.....not a train room. Or is it a house for your trains.
BTW- that would be one MONSTER helix if you could pull it off.
Last night I finished some of the painted details around the rocks. Still have the golden Aspen tree to detail up... will add some greenery hanging off the top of the rocks too.
Then onto ballast and ground scenery.
I should have turned the power on... but her is a quick snap shot....
OK John I have decided not to tell your wife so you better not show that pic of me to anyone.
I look at your pics and am absolutely stunned. I just can't get over how quickly and beautifully you built this scene! You have some serious skills, J-Daddy!
Hey guys-
Summer updates-because a restless mind never sleeps, and we all know us train guys are always thinking about trains!
I wanted a snow shed in this scene, and I was thinking of making it removable for different photos / looks. So working at my not so professional work bench/ card table, up goes the latest structure from scratch!
And here she is in place... just needs a roof and some weathering...
Nice job on the snow shed. Post pictures when it's finished.
Nice job John. If that snow shed was a little longer your wife would never realize that was a Roadrunner tunnel not a Coyote tunnel.
John, the whole scene looks tremendous!
What hole in the wall???
Looks just Great John! It is really nice to see scratch built items going up!
Great work John. One day I gotta work up the courage to cut a hole in the wall for the trains.
opened wall between back room and the utility room...
RSJB18, give it a try, it is both fun and addicting. 1st i did holes in the walls near the ceiling, then cupboards, then wall sections. the wall used to be where the top 2 Amtrak trains are.
another "hole in the wall"
then a bigger hole to see the trains run in the back room while watching tv at night...
this area was the stairway to the upstairs and a closet...
looking thru the window....
a lot of cutting to get to here....this also used to be a wall up to the ceiling, the steps to the upstairs up were where the glass bi-fold doors are now....

OK- I did cut one hole in a wall but it was with the CEO's authorization....and its for the cat, not trains.
