I have only run my LCT 4696 a little bit since I got her earlier this year. I have her on a loop around the tree this season. I hooked up my DCS to see what features she has. However, I am hearing a bad static buzz when I push the engine sounds options on the remote.  You can hear it three times in the attached video. The idle sounds all play fine. Is the sound file corrupt or is there something else going on? I have not tried changing any software on this engine.

Thanks,

George

Hello Barry,

Under the 'more' option for button S4 on the remote I get a scrolling list of options. Several of those are labeled "ENGINE SND" followed by a number from 1 to 7. Those are the sounds that play only static.

I downloaded the sound file from the MTH website. I have been playing it on my PC with the ADPCM program that I found out about in another thread. Most of the clips play with the 4 bit setting but some need the 24 bit setting. If I play a clip with the wrong setting in the ADPCM program, it sounds like the static I hear from the engine. Could the engine have been shipped with a bad sound file?

Thank you,

George

I think the sounds are suppose to be there... Some type of automatic  blow down valve.

Gregg, I don't think that is it.

I think these are supposed to be the individual sound clips from the PFA mode. I have been playing with the file with SANDIEGOMARK's ADPCM program. Engine Sounds S01 through S10 are in index locations 177 to 186 in the sound file. There are definitely audio clips there. I hear these clips from the engine when I put the engine in PFA mode, but when I try to play the individual engine sounds from the DCS remote menu, I hear only static. It seems like the engine is playing clips S02 through S09 at the wrong bit sampling rate, but only when I try to play the clips individually from the remote.

The sound file for this engine has incorrect data type set for the S02 - S09 engine sounds clips. They were coded as 24 bit but the clips are actually 4 bit. I fixed the sound file with Mark's program and reloaded it. Now everything works correctly.

Barry, is this something I should report to MTH given this is a newer engine?

Thanks again,

George

Hi George.... What sounds did you end up with?

The sounds were similar to the PFA sound clips, but Mark determined that the actual PFA clips were in a different location in the sound file. I also replaced one sound clip with a station stop sound clip I found in sound file from the same engine with a different road name. The engine sounds say things like "where are we going today?" and "Do we pick up empties?". There are ten engine sound clips that can be played from the remote at will, so they are neat for creating some custom dialog in an operating session.

I think another one of my engines does this too, but it is boxed up and put away. One day I will fix that one too.
